G-Gundam really got me started in anime along with Slayers. Somehow after those two I wound up with Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure.

I cannot fathom how anyone could ever get into Slayers. The entire first three episodes are unredeemable garbage. I mean, I love the show, but I don't know how.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to watch that... starting with Ep. 4, apparently.

They make a good case study of the astonishing awkwardness of the Evangelion era.

Finally got around to watching Endless Eight and the other episodes from the extended rerelease of Haruhi. It looks like the performance in Live Alive puts a lump in my throat even when I know it's coming.

So while I was in Halifax recently I picked up the eighties Astro Boy boxed set and it is the worst thingTM. For the record, I am a huge Tezuka fan and I love the Astro Boy manga, but this is awful. I hope it's at least like the 2003 series where there are a couple of episodes that make suffering through the rest worth it.

oh noooooo

Seriously, for all the flak it gets, the 2003 series was at least pretty. This just doesn't cut it for me. It could be that I have no nostalgia for the show, or that I've read all of the manga and know how severe all of the watering down is, or it could be that the North American release put all of the episodes out of order for no reason thus making the best plotlines largely incomprehensible. Yeah maybe that's it.

I don't know, I think it captures Tezuka's usual brand of cheery nightmarishness rather well.

I feel so fucking stupid for persisting with Seikon no Qwaser. I should just watch it backwards, since they are clearly to hold off Sasha sucking on the blue haired girl's tits for as long as humanly possible. Episode 13 ended with a circle of five naked women standing around him begging him to suck on their tits and him going, "NO I CAN'T I'M TERRIFIED OF TITS."

I mean, Rickroll is RIGHT THERE. Bel Air is RIGHT THERE. I do not need you to replicate this handy internet service, Seikon no Qwaser.

I guess by "watching" I should clarify that I mean downloading the episodes and clicking through them to see the fanservice bits. I think, literally, the only time a hentai/ecchi anime made me care about the characters was Usag-chan de Cue, but not everyone is born equal.

Okay, really really did not like the first part of the Evangelion rebuild.

2.22 is like night and day. Suddenly this is exactly what I wanted out of Evangelion.

Some weak CG here and there aside I love everything about this.

Yesterday at Wal-Mart I found the first part of the new Fullmetal on Blu-Ray really cheap. I didn't even know it was out yet!

...I may be picking this up once I'm done buying necessities.

Unrelated: I traded my Advent Children DVD for $6 at work a while ago. A few nights ago a regular customer came in to trade his entire Blu-Ray collection. I bought the Blu-Ray "Complete" version off of him for $5.
Now I can watch the best worst movie about Nokia phones ever in high-definition! :whoops:
