So for the next five years, Japan will be trying to emulate Gennady Tartovsky?

Er. Oh dear.

That is the least worst thing I have ever read.

I suppose that if nothing else, it's a damn sight better than the current crop of animu.

Would be much nicer if they decided to imitate the other Tarkovsky.

Gennady Tartovsky

In the interest of clearing up confusion: Genndy Tartakovsky, as distinguished from Fortinbras' Andrei Tarkovsky.

I'm not sure how well Tarkovsky influences would serve a market interested in more disposable entertainment, but you wouldn't hear me complain in either case.

Well, it's cute that you're trying to trap me rather than make recommendations.

I'm sure I'm not up-to-the-minute current as the average school kid trolling Akibahara, but you want my opinions? Sure. I do actually peek at the new stuff whenever I go by the comic store. If it looks like something I might be interested in, I look it up online to see what it's like.

- High School of the Dead
Not a fan of zombie horror in any language (exception: if GuitarWolf is involved). Hell, I'm not even really much of a horror fan.
-New EVA stuff
EVA burnout means I don't give a fuck (does that even count as 'new?' really? They could 180 the plot and characters and it still wouldn't be a different series. Come on.)
- Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Wouldn't touch anything sourced from Squeenix console claptrap with an eleven-point-five-foot pole. Leaving that aside, the actual murder mystery plot didn't look particularly interesting in any way shape or form. Maybe it would be better if they didn't use the artifical and massively overdone "we're trapped on an island!" gimmick? Nah, probably not.
- Occult Academy
"Magical school" derivatives can go fuck themselves. Like, are there not enough of these already?
- Ladies vs Butlers!
Modern-spin harem comic meets third rate slice-of-life (sorry, "slice-of-life"), combined with terrible quasi-moe art style and the traditionally forced bunch of awkward encounters with sexual overtones. No. NO.
- Fate/Stay Night
Not familiar with this, but a quick google search (garbled console-novel) does not leave me optimistic.

I am also amused that every single one of your suggestions involves school-aged kids and almost all of them involve MAGICAL POWERS. Seriously, you're trying to convince me that WHOA I'M IG'RANT ABOUT TEH NIHONS LATEST AND GREATEST and then cite a bunch of, well.... junk? Magical schools and harem anime? Are you kidding me?

At least Panties and Stockings looks like it might possibly be genuinely funny and worth watching. Not a single thing in that list makes me want to do anything other than excoricate myself, never mind using them as a springboard to look up other new series that might be coming out.

The opinions various board members had on more recent series and (more relevant to your trollin') the exact types of Anime/Manga I enjoy and the decline thereof were actually discussed here pretty recently. If you missed the earlier conversation entirely, let me be clear: My favourite anime of all time is Wings of Honnaemise, with Bebop and Tokyo Godfathers being strong contenders.

Nothing on your list even comes remotely close.

Frocto, those series are a big pile of crap.

That's fine, Mongrel, we don't have a policy of banning people who are wrong on these forums!

I like that Frocto's biggest recommendation is the one you didn't even take a second glance at before registering your opinion.

I can't blame you though. End of Eva killed your childhood.

Dude, he ranked it on par with Ladies vs Butlers!

If that's top-shelf stuff... well, don't call us, we'll call you.

I don't mean to say that Frocto's tastes are on par with mine, but if I ask for someone's opinion of a half dozen different things I probably don't consider them all to be on the same level. What Frocto sees in Ladies Vs Butlers eludes me as well (by virtue of not giving enough of a shit to bother seeing it) but I'm probably going to investigate Occult Academy because he bothered to use the bold tag.

It all looks like one big incestuous bucket of self-reference to me.

Self-reference is the sinkhole that draws all media into a septic-tank singularity?

I recently plowed through Samurai Champloo on hulu, and I'm thinking I should go through another nip tv series. Does anyone have recommendations from out of their lineup?

The new Eva 2.22 is good, and I've been enjoying the FMA reboot. Not much to report elsewhere.
