Personally I quite liked the one about the baby calves.

Because that's the kind of thing that needs clarification.

I think the Alucard one was a joke, too, since one of the fansubs of the original series translated it as "Arucard" and actually had a huge long blurb up top when he introduced himself explaining that it's totally Arucard, because that's how he pronounces it, and blah blah blah blah blah.  It was like three lines long and stayed onscreen for a minute and a half.

Whoever picked up Ultimate decided to keep their argument more... brief.

oh god, I totally forgot about all that ARUKAADO/ARKARD bullshit.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Arkard.  Though I think that's the same group that translated Excel Excel's name as "Yuxiu Flower".

I suspect this was the HK bootleg. Excel was translated by Slow As Hell Subs, so slow that people started distributing rips from a terrible Chinese translation.

Today's gaijin stereotype, the murderous David Rice, comes to us via Nougami Neuro. Sporting a beak longer than his gun barrel, David treats his foreign hosts to a sermon on hot dogs, hamburgers, and murder.

First appearing in Chapters 31 to 35, the real fireworks begin in Chapter 34. A quick reappearance  begins in Chapter 127.

Anime Episode @ Crunchy Roll. For as much as they toned down in the anime, the reveal of the gun @ 17:55 can't be topped.

This made me fucking cry for like five minutes.

Then the clarification on the cutlet not coming from a human baby must have been devastating.

Hey, I remember that!

...

I mean, I remember seeing that.

Also following the link on Parody McStereotype there it seems he's referring specifically to nattou, which would make any American throw up and start ranting about how much Japanese food sucks.

Still more flavors to sample. Today's Choice: Context Sensitive Fudge.

Meanwhile, Gonzo Animation, a company heavily dependent on the now anemic International market, is considering turning into an all-out hentai company to avoid bankruptcy. Here's a listing of properties you can soon expect to see go the way of Valis & Evangelion.

I have a hard time believing that one isn't supposed to look like what it looks like.

As much as I love that screen grab for the wondrous implications, on the other hand, I have to say: Japan, serious, cut it out.

Stop with the fucking eyes already.

That shit is creepy.

I'm late, but here are my thoughts on dubs/subs (coming from a guy who hasn't watched any new anime in the past few years):

The only shows I've seen that I just cannot watch dubbed are Trigun and Excel Saga. Captain Tylor used to be on that list, but one day I wanted to have it running in the background while doing stuff on my computer or playing a handheld or something and I decided "fuck it" and turned on the dub instead, and quickly got used to it. The only voice I had a problem with was Tylor's - his Japanese voice just sounded so much lazier and sleepier and I think it fits him better.

...Now I want to watch Tylor again. Fuck, I never even finished watching all of the OVA episodes.

...I liked Trigun's dub.   :sadpanda:

Excel Saga doesn't count.  When you pretty much write the entire show based on a specific talent of a singular voice actress, you can expect to have trouble internationalizing it.
