Cats are the best pets, we have random cats from the neighbourhood that wander into our house and try steal food, I love and hate them.
Also, newbie, i'm sorry to hear about your kitty. *Hugs newbie forever* After reading that, it made me so sad. :(

You let that puppy orgy go on and you'll be looking at a lot more new pets.

I was trying to catch one of the puppies squirmy sleeping earlier, but by the time I came back with my camera, he'd stopped of course.  But then this blue collar one, he went all crazy, so I took footage of that instead :3

First Pet Ever.  I named him Nature Lover.

I just realized that my parents were my current age when this picture was taken. WEIRD.

Pity. You've ruined my katestory entry where you get a fell mood and make a Classic bone klanth. (it menaces with spikes of marble).

My cat Syrup is an abnormally tiny fully grown cat - when we found her she was fresh out of a pet store and couldn't have been more than two months old - we suspect her owner probably tossed her outside when she was small enough to still be hawk bait and assumed that they could have a 100% outdoor cat. Fortunately (for me - unfortunately for whoever the stupid owner was) she was tossed out on a day I just happened to come home from work five hours early and I found her in the hallway leading up to my apartment. Tried to find the owner  - left a few notes on doors etc, but nobody spoke up so I kept her.

Unfortunately, I'm a cheap and bad cat owner, so she never got spayed and got out a couple of months ago - she'd already gotten out while in heat twice before and nothing ever came from it beyond a phantom pregnancy, and we actually believed she was sterile. Big surprise came the other night when she crawled behind our bed and gave birth to a very small litter of two tiny kittens.

Here she is sitting in her little spot behind our waterbed:

Nursing the grey/black/white kitten whose color I'm really not sure of yet

Here's the orange kitten. They haven't opened their eyes yet and are basically just adorable mewling balls of squirm.

The other kitten was firmly latched on at the time of the picture taking, and I didn't want to disturb it while it was eating. I'll try and get more pictures as they grow. Sadly we will (probably) not be keeping either of the kittens because we already have six cats in the house and three of them are coming with us when we move out. We're almost certainly giving one to a family member though, and one may stay with our in laws who we're living with at the moment, so we'll see what happens.

For the record I know both kittens will go to good homes and I will be getting her spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned.

Could be worse.

Someone I know had a cat many years ago (no, not me, I've only owned cats in the last couple of years). They didn't spay the cat and had ten years to do so. That cat died in great pain from a terrible ovarian infection.

Worse still that cat was beloved not just by the former owner, but by that persons mother as well. Probably more so than by the owner. After the cat died, the owner's mother entered a period of deep depression and severe mental and physical decline. As a result, the former owner continues to feel a horrible unresolved guilt even now, over a decade later, for what they feel they did to the cat and what they did their mother.

In this person's defense, they were a stupid teenager and then an arrogant university student at the time and have since learned better. And the feeling of responsibility for their mother's decline like that is pretty damn undeserved. But they still beat themself up over it frequently.

C'est la vie.
