1. Whatever it takes a helicopter to kill, I'm not in a hurry to find out. Carry on.

1.

And some northern California towns are way the hell creepier than fiction.

Always got a kick out of Klamath in Fallout 2. Mostly because it somehow manages to be larger and less desolate than the real thing after getting bombed out.

1. No. Whatever it was, it's paste now. No point going back. Keep heading west, toward Limestone.

"I don't want to go back," you say. "Whatever was down there is dead now."

You continue up and west. A canyon stretches to your left. The creek at the bottom seems to be where the fire was stopped. Everything past it is blackened. You can still see plumes of smoke rising in the distance. Soon, the road turns away and you put the canyon behind you.

"Pretty grass," Nicole says. You look over to your right to see the Gold Hills Country Club front gate. Behind it stretches the golf course. You actually golfed there, once. The place looks empty now.

As you continue past it, you see what would have been a normal sight a week ago. A man is golfing on the greens. As you watch he swings his club and the little white ball goes flying off into the distance. You're about to comment when the man turns around, and even at this distance, you can see it's Benny. He shoulders the golf club and waves at you.

"I had a membership here," Jacob says.

"Oh yeah?" you ask. "You like golf?"

"Not really," Jacob admits. "But if you're a doctor, you have to play. If you don't occasionally spend a day riding around in a cart hitting a little ball around with a big club into a small hole, they come when you're asleep

they sure do

and tie you up. Dump you onto the course with nothing but a golf club and a bath towel."

David chuckles. "Yeah, but you must have made pretty good money."

"I guess," Jacob says, and looks again at the course through the fence. The grass is starting to get long.

The country club passes behind you. Occasional offshoots lead into the back hills. Houses. Everything looks fine. Empty, but fine.

"Look, up ahead," David says. "There's someone in the road."

Indeed, there's a body laying face down in the middle of the road. As you watch a hand twitches. The body starts to crawl. There's a house nearby, set back off the road a couple hundred feet.

Jacob leans forward. "We should stop. He needs help."

"He's probably infected!" David says.

"We have leftover alcohol in the trunk," Jacob says.

"Just run him over," David says. "Best to put him out of his misery."

Nicole touches your shoulder from behind you.

*****************************************

1. Run him over.

2. Steer around him.

3. Stop.

If you guys ever steer this story to San Fran, I'm sure we can visit you.

Imagine it. Legions of infected Japanese Tourists and bad drivers.

I'll take that as a signal that she'll judge us if we ran the poor sap over.

3!  We've gotten good at killing regular Faceless anyway.  It's Crawlers that are kinda dangerous at the moment.  I just hope this isn't something new... but it's better to encounter something new when we have the upper hand, and it's not leaping out of us from the darkness or something.

Oh, and I guess now we know why Nicole was behaving more 'human' recently- whatever her abnormal condition is, it's not active all the time.  I can only assume it's letting Nicole be herself most of the time now because she's under our protection, and not wandering around alone in a ruined city.

3. I'm not personally for wasting our stash of booze on this extra person, but this is the option I still like best. Let's see what happens, imo.

Additional notes: Nicole's pupils dilate when the not-They is in control.  David knows this, I think.  Is it hiding from David, or was my earlier theory correct?  Plus, Wolfy knew something was odd about Nicole when we first saw her, and mentioned her eyes being 'huge' more than once; I guess this is why.

Also, David seems to be giving us mostly incorrect advice while seeming to merely be paranoid, and 'Benny' is giving us correct (if very late and essentially useless) advice while being a complete asshole about it.  I'm not entirely sure about Jacob.  Could be hit and miss, depending on how our current situation works out.

Well, it looks like 3 is the current vote and I don't see it being overridden anytime soon. I would, however, be sad and amused to see this turn into a typical case of "I'm going to lie in the road until somebody stops so my buddies in the woods can shoot them." I mean, that's pretty standard, and it'd only figure that we'd be killed by non-They after such pathological amounts of paranoia up to this point.

Personally, I'd drive on, and if need be stop after a mile or so and come back on foot and off the road to give things a more proper look-over.

At the very least, I'm hoping that Fri is taking non CYOA voting into account and incorporating it into our narrative action.

Also, I'm kind of sad that we ditched family-of-crazy. There was clearly some kind of interesting story waiting to happen there. I know day one of this fucker was pretty damn clear in stating that untaken options were gone forever, but if we screw up I'd love to explore some forking paths at a later date.

Yeah, that would have been a cool adventure. Maybe we would've survived getting shot! Or claimed another infectee to cure! Or, at least, saved someone who hadn't been gotten.
