do you know who all the actors on the stage are?

no you don't

Alright, it's pretty damn strongly implied that there's something screwy about kiddo. Never doubted that. At the same time, she hasn't taken any actual action that's in any way harmful to anyone. I don't trust her any more or less than anyone involved right now, though the fact that she's the one person other than Jake who hasn't tried to kill anyone or popped tentacles is remarkable to me.

That said, I don't trust duder here in front of us, either, but I'm going with 1. Everything else seems too much like "I'm telling!"

Also, I'd like a fucking gun now, please.

1, David may have some insight here.  Even if he doesn't, we don't want a gun-toting maniac thinking we don't trust him.

1 Perhaps... Perhaps we are in for a rougher ride than we thought at first. No matter what, Jacob and David are going to be useful allies. We're going to need their cooperation if we want any (un)reasonable expectation of maintaining a meaningful autonomous human presence on this continent.

1. "Alright, David. I'll trust you, for now. We'll talk later."

"Thanks," David says, and turns back to look at the clouds. "I guess we're gonna be getting out of here pretty soon."

"Yeah," you say. "It's not safe here. I have some maps if we have to hit the road."

"Good," David says absently. He suddenly laughs. "Oh, here. You'll probably want this back," he says, taking out the revolver and offering it to you.

"Yeah," you say, taking it. "Thanks."

You check the chambers. Still three rounds left. Safety is on. Seeing it makes you remember that note you found in the same car you got the gun from.

they look just like us

Maybe there's more to what David is saying than just crazy ramblings or delusions brought on by trauma. You tuck the gun away.

Heading back inside, you notice the apple Benny had discarded onto the grass is still there. There's a worm in it. A regular one.

Pushing open the doors to the lobby, you take one last look at David. He stands like a statue against the oncoming storm, looking out into it. A wind is starting to pick up. You shut the doors behind you.

Nicole runs into the room. "Look what I found!" she smiles. "Look!"

She's holding up some kind of toy. Looks like a dog toy of some kind. A chew rabbit. You kneel and examine it. It's pretty soft to the touch. Nicole squeals.

"His name is Mr. Benny," she says.

You do a double take. "What did you say his name was?"

"Mr. Bunny, silly! I can't name him Mr. Turtle! He's a rabbit!"

"Oh, OK. What if I told you his name was actually Mr. Chew Toy?"

"Noooooooooooooo!" she says, and runs away giggling.

You stand and shake your head. This is a very different Nicole from two days ago. She actually seems like she's returning to life, or something. Still occasionally creepy, but you can almost believe she's a fairly normal little girl.

"Oh, yeah. Perfectly normal little girls shoot worms out of their mouths into your brain all the time," Benny says from behind you.

"Go away, dipshit," you say, without turning, and leave the room. You hear Benny laughing behind you.

Entering the den, you figure you might as well clean up the empty cans. You throw the ruined bean bag outside.

"You know, there's a ten thousand dollar fine for littering," Benny says, coming in through the broken sliding glass door.

You stand, walk over to Benny's grinning face, and punch him in the jaw.

Benny's grin vanishes as your fist connects, and he goes crashing to the ground, spittle flying. Your hand hurts. You really clocked him good. Benny looks up at you from the ground, his eye afraid. There's a bit of blood coming out of his mouth.

Wait a minute... you can hurt him? Your mind goes to the gun in your pocket.

***************************************

1. Shoot Benny. Maybe you can get rid of him. This might be how to remove the infection.

2. Nah. Leave him and find Jacob, ask about the X-rays.

3. Actually, you want to talk to Benny. Ask him a few questions. He's probably full of shit, but it might learn you something.

I'm against wasting the ammo, but there's no "beat the ever-loving shit out of him" option.

Hey guys, let's shoot someone who only exists in our imagination! I'm sure that'll inspire confidence in us with Jacob and David! Yeah!

NO! NO! NO! NO! HALLUCINATIONS! HALLUCINATIONS ARE NOT SOMETHING YOU ACT ON!
But since our dumbass self has punched Benny now, we've gotta figure out whether or not we've hit someone real, you know someone like David, or something fake and will be important for us to slug.
3.

Hopefully we can summon him out again if it turns out we really oughtta shoot the fucker (again).

You don't want to learn something about the nature of this hallucination first? Seems kind of critical.

it is not a hologram

it is not an illusion

it is a part of your brain

do you wish to damage a part of your brain beyond what is reasonably amusing?

We've just clocked David.

Shooting him would make Jacob think we've gone mad, of course.

Learning that Jacob & Nicole may be working in tandem is swell and all, but we need action.

That'd be guess number one... But... I don't think clocking him and walking away is gonna turn out to be alright for us.

Actually... Come to think of it I wouldn't be surprised if everyone but Nicole had gotten one. From Jacob.

If he's in our head, he can't tell us anything we don't already know.  If he's part of the infection, there's no reason to trust anything he says.

I'm all about 3. Not much to be lost by having a bit of a chat with your own crazytown if you're reasonably sure nobody's around. I've had some fantastically enlightening conversations with vending machines and whatnot in my time. Had a thumb turn around and roar at me once, but if you don't go shooting off body parts (which, I think, is what this is, one way or another) you come out knowing more about yourself than you did going in.

Provided, of course, that nobody catches you doing it. Maybe take him for a quick walk around back.

I'd say whatever was in Nicole hijacked Jacob after she got shot.

They were alone together.  David was knocked out.  Jacob was distracted, treating the wound.  It's a perfect opportunity to escape a wounded body.  This would explain Nicole's behavior turning more normal, and her comment about Jakey smelling like blood... as well as David's new suspicions of Jacob.  I think we're more 'allied' with Jacob than Nicole now.

3. He's another prospective, and he seems to be a negitive one. Trust no one, and figure out what he thinks of everyone.

You're right! Don't trust anyone over 30! Shoot the fucker and take our own damn xrays. Check wikihow or some such shit.

... oh, right. End of the world. Though somehow I always figured that'd happen -because- of the internet.

Hey, guys, any chance I can get a recap? or at least important page numbers? I don't feel like reading 33 pages right after taking sleeping pills.
