Heads exploded in proximity to her.  Unless you're Red Mage, that proves nothing.

Right, it's just circumstantial evidence that makes no sense to attribute to a little girl that grins creepily, has knowledge of all the parasites, constantly makes ominous things, and brain-raped us in our dream when we decided to go to her despite being warned repeatedly that she was worse than death itself.

...I shouldn't bother, I already know you just want us to ssssssssssssss

So, yeah. Pretty much didn't do shit. We're creepier, and have creepy dreams. If I went around shooting everyone who brainfucked me in a dream, well... you're still here. Stop complaining.

Hey Friday, are you still playing the game in this thread and just copying into the archive thread, or are you going to be posting story updates in the other thread exclusively?

To answer your question; story updates will go into both threads. The other thread is just there for people who want to read the story without the rest.

Hope this clears that up.

Anyway, pretty sure an update is in order... sec.

Important Game Information At the Bottom Of This Post.

2. Nah. Leave him and find Jacob, ask about the X-rays.

"That felt better than it probably should have," you say, shaking your hand off.

Benny gets to his feet. He's no longer smiling.

"We don't have to be enemies," he says, softly. "I'm trying to help you, bro."

"I doubt it," you say, and leave the room.

Heading to the X-ray room, you find Jacob putting up the X-rays against the lighted board. He looks closely at them.

"Oh, just in time," he says. "Have a look."

You peer at the full body shot. Looks like the... things... inside you have significantly decreased. You can still see a big mass in the upper and lower torso, but the vines reaching into your limbs and head are almost entirely gone.

"From what I can tell," Jacob says, "There's about a sixty-five to seventy percent reduction. Seems like the alcohol did the trick."

You smile, relieved. You suspected as much, but seeing it here, in front of you, proof that you're beating this thing, well...

It hits you, finally. You might actually make it out of this mess alive.

"Great," you say. "So I'll just get pissed again. Finish the rest of them off."

"Well..." Jacob says. He looks concerned. No, not quite. Cautious.

"What is it?"

"I don't know. From what I can tell, the worms inside you that survived... well, here. Look."

Jacob goes to a stack of papers, grabs one, and comes back. Puts up another X-ray on the board, next to another one showing just your neck and head, in closer detail. Jacob points.

"You can see here, in this X-ray we took before the alcohol, the worms in your head."

You nod.

"And here, after."

You look. It seems like the bigger worms survived the transition. The smaller, "branch like" worms did not. You lower your head. The hope you had starts to slip away.

"Great. That's just great."

"From what I can tell, the older, bigger worms are able to survive the alcohol in your system somehow. Perhaps they've grown enough to be able to become immune or resistant to it. I don't know."

"So it's just a matter of time, then. Until they grow back, and I turn."

"No. Well, yes. Listen, I could be wrong. But worst case scenario, don't you see? We can keep them repressed. Put you on a 'diet' of alcohol. Keep the worms from spreading, taking control. It's the same all over your body. The central, thicker and presumably older worms stayed alive in you. The small, secondary worms died out."

You shake your head. "This doesn't make any sense," you say.

Jacob sighs. "I'm just spouting conjecture, here. You may be able to kill off the worms with another round of booze. But my gut tells me that these things are resistant to smaller doses. Maybe you could actually kill off the worms, with enough alcohol."

"But... I'd die of alcohol poisoning, too," you say.

"That's my idea. Obviously we need more data, first. But if I had to hazard a guess..."

You put your finger to the board, the worms in your brain. "Damn it. I was so sure I had beaten them. That just one more night of drinking would finish them off. Now I'm stuck with them. Forever."

"Now, don't say that. We have no idea if there is a cure or not. Likely case, there is one. And we can keep them from spreading with the alcohol in the meantime. You were lucky. If the worms in you had matured to the point of the older worms, it would have been too late. A change would have been inevitable at that point."

"Motherfucker," you say. "What the fuck is going on around here, anyway? I mean, we're talking about worms in my head. There are worms in my head. This is some seriously fucked up shit."

Jacob only looks at you.

You sit down on a small bench, taking out your revolver and fingering it. Jacob looks a bit startled for a moment, then seems to control himself.

"I wanted to ask you," he says, swallowing. "Are you still experiencing hallucinations?"

**********************************

What do you tell him? Everything? Leave out your talk with David? Admit to seeing Benny? Lie, and say you chose Benny in the dream, or tell him you chose Nicole? Or simply deny everything, and ask to get packed, get your guns back, and get out of here before it's too late? First plan (in bold) with two endorsements (in bold) goes through.

**********************************

Voting change: I'm going to try something a bit new, if I like it, it will stay. Instead of the first option to four votes being locked in (or in the case of a choice like this one, two endorsements) I will use whatever plan has the most votes or endorsements for it at the time I update.

I will still update at 4 votes or 2 endorsements. However, if I am gone for a long period of time, and I come back to find option 1 with 5 votes and option 2 with 6, I will go with option 2, regardless of which got to 4 votes first.

So, your vote may very well possibly matter past the 4 mark. Again, if there turns out to be some kind of problem for me or you with this, I will revert the voting to the original method, but I have noticed a few times where it was very close and the only reason I went down a particular path was because that one was voted for first.

p.s. if I am in the middle of an update, I'm not going to change based on new replies while I was updating. They will be disregarded. In addition, in the case of a tie, I will go with whichever option reached 4 votes first.

...  If Jacob isn't fully human, I think he's trying to figure out what faction we belong to now.  It's like a game of werewolf!  I suck at werewolf, but here we can cheat.

We should try to figure out a way of getting an X-ray of everyone without provoking a confrontation between any two people.  I have to go to work right now and can't think out a full plan, so I'll leave that to someone else.

"Yeah, but they're very different now. And... More coherent." After a short pause, we can ask, "Any reason you're asking other than to tell me it's bad news?"

I think we should be prepared to reveal the death episode, and mention everything else, but instead of Nicole mention that it's HIM we saw.

We're not giving up. We can beat this yet! And... Well... If we can figure it all out, we can beat this.

But for right now, we've got a headache, is there aspirin here?

Brush him off, get packed, get back your guns, leave.

We've been running around in circles for the past few choices now.

Thirding the X-Ray everyone plan, as long as we leave, and soon.

Edit: X-ray only Nicole and get the F out of dodge.

Do we have TIME to x-ray everyone?  I don't think we really do.  If we're going to x-ray more people, fuck x-raying David--he's the one I believe is the most normal.  If we're really stressed for time, then we should only x-ray Nicole because she's the highest concern I think.

You might be onto something about skipping David, as he is probably the one I would trust the most out of all of them at this point.

I'm not sure about the need to x-ray Jacob either, now that I think about it. I mean, if something IS in Nicole and it transferred to Jacob, I'm assuming it would need an entry point. He still has both his eyes and he isn't bleeding visibly. Considering the lack of time, I trust him enough to skip.

Nicole however... Big unknown there, for many reasons already cited above. Also, checking her out will have no big repercussions from her trustwise if it's false (You can just tell her it's for her own benefit), and you get big Daniel points for actually checking out his suspicions, and trust isn't something he seems to dole out freely under the current conditions.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Edit: multiple persons, this is every reason why you're wrong:

We don't know exactly how much time we have left, but why not use all of it? We could just pack up and leave now, but we're wasting the resource of the X-ray, even if we're interrupted, we'll get more done than nothing.

As for the order, Nicole is the least important.

Jacob has been acting the most normal, and under this setting, that's pretty odd. If he comes up clean, it means we're much more likely able to trust him.

David has of course been acting a little off. Something is wrong with him, and I expect something to show up in this X-ray, Jacob's will tell us how important David's results are.

Nicole, well, yeah. OK it seems pretty important, but relatively, it's not. She's acting a lot more normal now, and maybe she just represented a higher power in the dream, and is actually healthy / clean / whatever. I think we're all expecting there to be something in her, though. If there isn't, that's a big twist that'll be important to read more into, but the way things look now, we've already sided with her, it doesn't matter what shows up on her test results now because whatever she is, we are too and it will be with us no matter what moves we take.

How do you expect David will react when he finds out that everyone has worms?

(Worms, worms, worms!
Worms, worms, worms, worms, worms, worms!
Everyone has worms!)

I think we should be prepared to reveal the death episode, and mention everything else except the talk with david (because I wanna know what the fuck he seen), but instead of Nicole mention that it's HIM we saw.

I don't think we should X-ray Nicole. Her big worm is in us now (kinky), and if she is a vine thing than those two will want to kill her, regardless if she's a good one or bad.

I WOULD agree with you, Rygaron, as she is acting pretty normally right now, but that's all the more suspicious after the whole bits of prophecy earlier. And the foreshadowing bothers me.

Also, Daniel probably has the most rational response to a zombie apocalypse compared to anyone else present. I mean, he watched his damn wife explode into vines in front of him after a slow decent into madness, and then was probably forced to kill her. I'd lose a few marbles after that and seeing the general state of the local geography, personally.

We "know" we've got another THEY hanging around. I don't think it's unreasonable that we present the idea that a human's hallucinations caused by the type 2 THEY exploit that human's trust. Replacing Nicole with Jacob, and offering this conjecture will either significantly ease a human or worm Jacob depending on the original's control of the worm, or will reveal to a worm that we've made bad assumptions about that we're lying. Hopefully forcing some kind of a tell out of the THEY.

David's telling us about a prophetic dream of his is also a bit disconcerting. Or, maybe really comforting if Nicole's actually awakened some psychic talent and not the source of our new THEY. I'm also not sure we can rely on alcohol to control the new THEY's growth. It might rely on our blood, but it looks like they managed to consolidate power after our binge and grow. It's possible this breed needs alcohols or hops or what have you to thrive. Though that conjecture is even more out there.

Anyway, while we can definitely move that generator and fuel for it, we definitely can't move that x-ray machine. For right now we can definitely trust all three(?) of our companions not to do us any immediate harm.

It's also safe to say that our consciousness is being eroded by our THEY and we need info from our party on it and them if we want to have a reasonable chance of ejecting it.

Air hasss a point.  We want to know more about Nicole.  Do we want everybody elssse to know more about Nicole?

Probably not, but you know what I'm really keen on hearing? What's her nickname for us?

I legitimately don't understand why people don't think this is a good idea. Classic and Sora aside since they're both bad at this and have proven it pretty efficiently.

Nicole is the only person we can trust right now because we've given her everything and she's yet to do anything that's put us at risk.

Of Jacob and David, David seems the least likely for us to trust. Jacob hasn't given us any reason to suspect him yet, but we'd be stupid to write off David right now.

We can give any details we want to give and have a grand old round table discussion when we're getting away later, but for now, we have a good chance to get more than just their word. No matter what shows up on the pictures, even if it's nothing from both of them, we're learning.

Nicole is a bonus if we can learn more about her but again, we already know there's something inside her, learning exactly what it looks like will help, but not as much as letting people we can't quite trust knowing what's in her.
