How come the moment I stop being Mr. Play-it-safe everyone else decides we can't push our luck any further?

I don't care if it's a trap.  2

2.

Could be another survivor, and it's not like we're unarmed.

Even worse, now we have to get out of the car for whatever reason.

I think 1 because if we can just get to the vet and see if the little bastard alienwhatever is in us, then maybe the vet can tear it out.

2. Get out and investigate this billboard.

You park the car against the curb (wondering why you're bothering to pull over, really) and grab your rifle. You take a look around to make sure no faceless are in the immediate area. It looks clear, so you jog back toward the billboard. You give it plenty of space, and circle round to the other side.

The writing is still the same, and the man you saw earlier is standing right under the mouth of the smiley.

He's pointing at you.

You still can't make out his face from here. He's wearing some kind of dark suit. He is perfectly still, arm outstretched.

go up to him

shoot him

get back in the car and leave

how's your mom

how's nicole

why did you leave me to die

Jacob can't be trusted

Sudden, searing pain in your head. You grab your head and fall to your knees, groaning in agony. You can feel something moving around in the back of your skull. The pain is unlike anything you've ever felt before.

get away from him he is the source of your agony

ssssssssssssssssss

he knows everything he must die shoot him

hahahahaha

two dead boys

see you around, tits

what happened to you? it looks like you've seen a ghost

The pain fades, and with it, the overlapping voices. You regain your feet, panting. The crawling sensation is gone.

**************************************

1. You've got a scope, a rifle, and a clear line of fire. Boom. Headshot.

2. Yell up to him. "Hello?!"

3. On second thought, forget it. Get back to the car, and head back to the vet.

4. Go to the base of the billboard. Look for a way up.

If G-Man wanted us dead, we'd be dead or a zombie now.  I wouldn't want to try anything violent or aggressive on the good chance that he can implode our face.

So it's communication or escape.  I'll pick 2 on the off chance that he can tell us something to help us out.  He'll probably talk in riddles or disappear or explode, but it probably won't hurt us to find out.  The voice is telling us to go back to Nicole, but I don't necessarily trust it.  This will only take a minute anyway.

Voting 3, because I didn't make it in time to vote 1 beforehand.

We need Nicole before we take on this scanners fucker.

2.  The voices want you to either kill him or leave him, and they are not on your side.  That said you're probably not in control enough right now to safely approach him.

Looking it over, it appears that He & Nicole are both talking with you simultaneously.

I don't think it's really Nicole.  It's either G-Man impersonating her or our own messed up mind.

"why did you leave me to die" does not sound like something she would say.

As concerned as I am for Nicole (and I really am I hope like nothing else that she's still human enough and that Jacob isn't planning on awful/won't be swayed by David), if he knows everything, we must know everything too.

Suddenly I give a fuck. Hoping for the possibility of pulling a mulligan to see the story play out on the off chance the collective inevitably screws itself. It might rob the thing of some gravity if we know we have extra lives, but again, I wanna know.

Still, waiting for some human drama beyond "shoot tentacled killing machine" or "shoot asshole engineered in such a way as to make me absolutely despise him." As yet there are few characters beyond myself to give a twisting shit about, other than Blank Girlie. Needs a bit more of the "we just learned that bites turn people into zombies, and you should kill yourself unless we decide to try to get that cure we heard about that might be bullshit."

But hey, I'm a professional critic.

Going for 2, if only because I spent more irrational giveafuck in trying to catch the G-Man than anything else in that game.

2. Yell up to him. "Hello?!"

Your voice sounds strange to you. It echoes and comes back to your ears, distorted. In the distortions you hear your own voice twisted:

welcome

You take a quick step back, startled. The figure lowers its arm.

"Who are you!?" you yell.

Again, the echoing, your own voice distorted.

i am many

The pain in your head returns. You wince, and yell up again.

"What do you want?"

what you want

The pressure in your head intensifies.

"And what is that?"

Your voice returns once more, but all you can hear is an undercurrent of white hissing noise, like

ssssssssssssssssssssssss

The figure suddenly turns, and starts to walk around the billboard.

The pain in your head suddenly vanishes, like a light switch being turned off.

"Wait! Come back!" you yell, but the figure only turns the corner of the board, and your voice is normal again.

You hurry to the other side, but the figure is nowhere to be seen.

The poem, or whatever it is, is still there, still unaltered. There's no way he could be hiding up there. He might have jumped down and somehow gotten away, but unless he can fly, you'd have thought you'd have seen it.

"Fuck me," you say. You glance over at your car. Nothing left to do, here. And you don't want to stay, anyway. You sling the rifle over you shoulder, and --

Faceless. Three of them. In the yards of two nearby houses. Jesus. How did you miss them before?

They're advancing. You've got about thirty feet and a low fence in between you and them. How did they get so close without you noticing?

****************************************

1. You're clear to get to your car. Run to it and drive away.

2. Put a rifle shot into the one closest to you, to be sure you'll have enough time to get to the car.

3. Fire at the close one with your 9mm, for above reasons.

4. ssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Much as I'm tempted by that last option in the same way I'm tempted to leap out of moving cars after eating too much acid, I'm going with number one.

Also, it's probably worth noting that people just plain don't fly back like crazy when you shoot them in the chest with a shotgun. Sure, it hits a bit, and if they're got good there's some leg twitching to go with it. But if you know that old physics thing, you also know it's not going to punch them any harder than the blow you're taking in your own shoulder, which isn't that much unless you're a crumpet eating poufdadour. It'll kill a dude, sure, but it won't be knocking anyone ass over teakettle through a plate glass window unless you're watching The Terminator. Try it out. I promise you can blame me for giving you the idea.

-----------

Additionally, it's probably worth noting that if hallucinating spooky assholes is a symptom of redvine conversion, and confronting said hallucinations makes them dutifully fuck off, maybe it's worth confronting any further hallucinations. Especially when telegraphed by notebooks filled out by shitheads.

-----------

Additional additionally, keep an eye out for it-was-all-a-dream-of-an-insipid-cyberspace-simulation-thingo-run-on-a-ZX-Spectrum-sitting-in-a-closet-in-West-Fuckyoufordshire kind of shit. If the author is Japanese you should remain ever vigilant against that kind of fuckassery.

I promise you right now, I'm not doing that.

My eyes are perfectly round.

EDIT: er, were you actually under the impression I was Japanese/Asian, out of curiosity? Because you're not the first guy online to think that.

Well, that looks like it had pretty bad consequences. What we want he says?  I want to make sure all three of our confirmed survivors are intact and get better.
