For the record, it is generally considered the the combined effects of the Allies intelligence and counter-intelligence programmes shortened the war by roughly two years and had a more dramatic overall impact than any weapon introduced or used during the war, with the possible exception of the Nuclear Bomb (and even that's debatable given that it was only used after the outcome was a foregone conclusion).

This has only really become clear since the 80's and 90's, since much of the history was still classified during the cold war.

Keanu Reeves is (was?) actually Canadian, and would have been a hockey player if injury hadn’t ended his career.

Gordon Ramsay is Scottish, and would have played soccer for Rangers if injury hadn't ended his career.

He then wanted to join the Navy, but couldn't because he had abandoned his education to focus on football. Then he went to technical college, where he wasn't good at anything except cooking. He graduated from catering and went to work for an angry chef who swore a lot.

Only took a few minutes after figuring it out, but maybe this will save someone else some time:

To recover a password you've relied on Chrome to autofill go to settings > advanced settings > password and forms - "manage saved passwords"

You can search by website, login name or keyword and reveal the password.

In Japan, sales of adult diapers now exceed sales of baby diapers.

Haha, holy shit:

http://www.witiger.com/internationalbusiness/countertrade.htm

Quote
Pepsi & Vodka

The countertrade arrangement where the rights to sell Russian vodka in the US in exchange for Pepsi (to be sold in Russia) was a huge story in the 1990's.

John G. Swanhaus, Jr., vice president, Pepsi Cola Company

As president of PepsiCo Wines & Spirits International, a major part of his responsibility was PepsiCo's supply to the U.S. market of Stolichnaya Russian Vodka as part of a countertrade agreement to sell Pepsi products in the Soviet Union.

Pepsi & Vodka -how did it work, Pepsi-Cola delivers syrup that is paid for with Stolichnaya Vodka. Pepsi has the marketing rights of all Stolichnaya Vodka in the U.S.

Recently Pepsi has made another innovative step by taking 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer in payment for Pepsi products. In turn, this rag tag fleet of 20 naval vessels will be sold for scrap steel, thereby paying for Pepsi products being moved to the Soviet Union.

Quote
By checking on wikipedia in ranking of countries by military equipment, I discovered something fascinating.

With 17 submarines, this meant that, for a short period of time, Pepsi-Cola had the world's seventh largest submarine fleet.

And one more quote:

Now we know why Taco Bell won the Franchise Wars.

That a band I've loved for years for their super smooth, relaxed sound started out sounding much, much different before a 12-year hiatus from albums.

It's too inefficient to fly fuel to the research station at the South Pole, so they drag giant sacks of diesel all the way across Antarctica with tractors.  It takes a month each way.

Man, I wish I could see that map better. It looks like they're using the Axel Heiberg Glacier, rather than the Beardmore to get off the barrier and up on to the Antarctic Plateau, but damned if I can see for sure.

I learned something pretty amazing today - worth of the double-post, I think - but you'll have to visit Guild Hall to see what.

When Warren Buffet launched his career in the late 50's to the late 60's, he imposed the following conditions and released the following information:

Quote
[Buffet] claimed a return greater than 1,100 per cent over 10 years, beating the stock market nearly tenfold. He also reported gains from 10 per cent to 22 per cent during the four down years in the market during that time.

He “ …warned that he would disclose nothing about where their money was invested. He would give them a yearly summary of results, nothing more…. Also, [he] would be ‘open for business’ only one day a year. On December 31, [the investors] could add or withdraw capital.”

[...]

There is no public record or data to confirm the out-of-this-world returns that launched his track record, reputation and switch in the early 1970s to running a financial conglomerate.

Now, it's a bit of a jump to state "Buffet started his career with a Ponzi Scheme!", but Jesus is that ever suspect. One begins to wonder if there wasn't at least some some kind of insider trading going on in the beginning.
