I'm left-handed and left-eye dominant.

Not for writing, but for other areas which require knowledge of the two.

I now need to unlearn and learn 10 years of hard training in a few months.  Good times!

What for? Something with right-hand-only controls?

EDIT: Something cool that makes big holes in stuff? :whoops:

Fishing? Fencing? Playing guitar? Using a knife and fork? Shuffling cards?

I like how we're all awestruck about how our newer members are around the same age we were when we started coming here.

...who the hell is "we"?

I'm old enough to vote
:advice:
I've never watched G.I. Joe

Yeah, one of the first times I felt old was when one of my brother's friends didn't know what He-Man was.

Pokemon was originally going to end cool in the anime and then they went ahead and cashed in instead of being decent about it :(

You know, while we're on the subject of GI Joe and He-Man...Pokemon was never anything but a cash-in either.

I mean, not to say a half-hour commercial CAN'T actually produce a satisfying story, but...when it does happen, it's really more of a pleasant surprise than something that you should expect.

(Caveat: I'm using "expect" to mean "think it's likely", not "think it's reasonable".  Because of course it absolutely IS reasonable for people not to write things that suck.  It's just not likely.)

I've mentioned The K-Metal from Krypton before as a sort of prototypical story that led to this kind of shit -- it was a 1940 Superman story that would have totally shaken up the status quo; Superman revealed his identity to Lois, she got superpowers, and they teamed up to fight crime together.  (And yeah, by the '50's this sort of thing happened all the time, but there was always a reset button at the end of those stories -- THIS one didn't reset it at the end, those were intended to be permanent changes.)

And, as in the Pokemon case, the owners of the property told the creative team, no, we've got something here that we're making a shit-ton of money on, and we're not going to let you change it up like that.

And that's pretty much how superhero comics have run ever since -- characters don't grow or change.  And now, 70 years later, the publishers are still trying to placate a shrinking core of customers who freak the hell out when Wonder Woman gets a new costume.

I left American comics for years. I am a story kind of guy. I like episodic stuff, but I demand some sort of overarching story. I got tired of "WHOOPS. NO ONE REMEMBERS WHAT HAPPENED TEN ISSUES AGO" and "ROMANTIC INTEREST!" I'm sorry. If I want inconsequential things and love interests that go no where, I'd pay more attention to my own life.
It's one of the things that made me read Spider-man almost exclusively there for a while. He was a nerd who somewhat got his act together, got married, and was still trying to balance being Peter Parker and Spider-man. Every few years he'd have a change of heart and do things different but it made sense. Like going back to work as a teacher. That makes sense for Peter. Of course now... well...

Anyway, yeah. I left the cape stuff for a long while because of all that. I returned right before OMD, ironically enough.  Odd as it is, I think DC is doing most of the "THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES AND WON'T HAVE RETCONS" as well as making sure there is mortality.  And I'm well aware I am saying it right after giant zombie thing and during bring people back from the dead thing. Even in that though, I think they are doing a good job with it.

This is why Zot! is the best superhero comic.

You gotta admit one thing though: Seventy years is a hell of a milk job. And the well ain't dry by a damn sight either.

You can play Snake with the loading animation on Youtube videos.

Focus on the video instead of the page (adjust the volume or pause and unpause by clicking on it), then wait for it to start buffering. You can use the arrow keys to play Snake. The flashing dot is your objective. The line of dots is you.

EDIT:
Apparently it works as long as you click the video at some point and hold down left. Try it with this one.

See, and what I don't like about American (superhero) comics is that they're NOT episodic enough and focus TOO MUCH on six-issue arcs.

Related blog post and caveat.

For a moment, I thought "Danny Trejo gets all these sorts of roles, but I bet in real life he's always been the nicest person you're gonna meet, it's often like that with actors". Then I hit his IMDB bio.

Quote
A child drug addict and criminal, Danny Trejo was in and out of jail for 11 years.

Juvenile hall, youth authorities ... I was in a lot of trouble. I grew up like the characters I've been playing. But would I do things differently? I honestly believe that circumstances create destiny, almost. There weren't too many ways I could have done things. The only things that were available to me were either be a laborer or be a drug dealer. So I became an armed robber. It was a lot simpler.

It was the funniest thing I'd ever heard. I'd been in Soledad, San Quentin, Folsom, Vacaville, Susanville, Sierra - and here's a guy asking 'Can you act like a convict?' I remember I said 'I'll give it a shot'.

So, yeah. Genuine reformed tough guy!

I actually based my buy vs. rent decision entirely on my dislike of apartment managers in general.
