I already knew Christopher Lee was a fan of Metal, but today I learned that he's releasing a Heavy Metal Christmas album.

I just learned that the Toronto Public Library has a giant-ass collection of sci-fi books. When I get home I'm gonna go wear out my library card borrowing every Star Trek paperback they have on the shelf.

Proctor and Gamble wanted to market a spray that eliminated all odors, and created Febreze. However, it was initially a flop, and market research discovered that it was because people didn't like it when they smelled nothing at all. So they needed to add scent to Febreze, except, as intended, it eliminated all odors, including the scent they added. So Proctor and Gamble had to invent a scent that couldn't be eliminated by Febreze, which took longer and cost more money that Febreze itself.

Also, I learned that of the sixteen known Aussie armoured corps guys who used the so-called "nuclear tank" I mentioned above, twelve are dead of cancer and one or two had it, but are in remission.

Good chart.  Source?

I knew the US's spending per capita on healthcare was crazy high compared to countries with ACTUAL universal healthcare, but I'd be interested to have the numbers in front of me.

It's been hopscotch re-posted a few times, so I don't have the original source, not do I have one with overall numbers for the US as a whole.

I was however able to find that particular fact quoted here.

That chart is slightly misleading though.

Canada has 35 million citizens.

When Starr was working in St. Louis, the phone number for the pathology secretary was 362436.

What's the significance of that number, you ask?

I'm double-confused.

Starr clarified this a bit:

Quote from: Some other dude
Was it truth in advertising?

Quote from: Starr
It was a temp number because they were renovating the department office. It is not truth in advertising - WUStL has some of the most expensive tuition in the country. Any dirty deeds done won't be dirt cheap, unless you specifically ask for the research fellow who works on an annual stipend of $18k.

Okay, but what about the song? Do/did Australian phone numbers only have 6 digits?

Oh, that I don't know. I think at the time they did, but the number's just silly made-up nonsense anyway (36-24-36 is also well known as a reference to something else...)

Research verifies that it was a real Australian phone number, but no information about the poor sucker who it belonged to (or whether or not that's a complete number, e.g. not missing an area code or something).  In America (one of) the owners of the 362-4368 telephone number filed a suit that they were being harassed endlessly because of the number (the eight coming from the "hey" immediately following the other digits).
