Sticking the image in Photoshop gives an RGB of 206, 46, 47 for the swatch on the left, and 206, 47, 54 for the swatch on the right.  The Magic Wand tolerance needs to be at least 8 before it'll select both.  So at least in that image, they are different.

The joke, which had stood for maybe a thousand years, didn't know we were coming that day. If it had, it would've run. Iron_Mongrel was the eye of our rage. And through him, our captain Ahab, we would set things right again. That day we loved him.

:THATWAY: GIFS
:THATWAY: HAVE
:THATWAY: THEIR OWN
:THATWAY: PALETTES!!!!!

You can render any 24-bit color with a gif, just not more than 256 of them in the same file.

This one is better.

That one was funnier before I noticed the comma between "Helping" and "Mama" and the wonderful, disturbing subtext was lost.

But not by default.

Do you really think Maddox went and tweaked his file settings, or do you think he just hit "save as .gif" in MS Paint?

Given that the colors in the image actually are different, probably he didn't just hit "save as .gif".

It seems I'm mistaken: I just loaded that gif in Photoshop and they're actually the colour the numbers say. I could have sworn that the last time I did this the second colour was off due to his saving as GIF and losing colour quality, making the two different enough to be perceptible. It seems that either I'm remembering wrong, or I'm remembering right and he fixed the image after a slew of smarty-pants complaints.

A 10-second glance at his site suggests he knows how to use an actual image editor, for better or worse.

Optimized is the default in Photoshop, by the way.

It's the best place to argue! I always win there!

Holy crap.  I just learned that there was basically no punctuation at all in the Middle Ages, or at least at the time when Chaucer was alive and writing.  Virtually all of the punctuation in the Canterbury Tales was put there by tons and tons of editors.

HEY.  YOU DON'T THROW Y'S IN LIKE THAT.  But you can put them before any consonants. Like...Ycleped or cleped, both are fine.  Or.....hm...I can't think of any other examples off the top of my head, but you really don't throw Y's in randomly--only where I's would normally go or what I stated previously about consonants.
