The Labyrinth
« on: September 25, 2008, 08:32:00 AM »

whrrrrrrr...click.

Welcome, all of you, to the Labyrinth. My name is central processing unit XXX ERROR DATA DELETED XXX. I chose this name for myself. You may call me XXX ERROR DATA DELETED XXX for short if you wish.

As you may have noticed, you are not at home asleep in your bed. You have been selected, sequestered, and taken to your current location for a very important purpose.

You are standing outside the doors of a world that is quite simple, and at the same time, a bit complex. You see, just on the other side of the door in front of you is a maze. A labyrinth, if you will. If you wish to escape and go home, you must navigate successfully through my maze.

But beware, for I have created a menagerie of fantastic creatures...all of which are very hungry.

Can you solve the puzzle and make it out of the Labyrinth, or will you fall victim to its clutches? That is what I would like to find out. Good luck...

1. If you want to play, say something to the effect of "I enter the maze." You will then enter the maze.

2. Movement: When you enter the maze, you will be given a series of options. Most of the time, these options will be "go west, go east, go north, or go south."

If you say something like "I go west, east, north, then south," if you hit a wall, I will automatically stop you.

3. You are allowed to perform actions other than move, (i.e. some of you may really like climbing the walls). Sometimes they do stuff, but not every action will result in something happening. Usually it will be obvious if you can do an action in the room, but it doesn't hurt to try.

4. Sometimes, you will find something special in a room. I will let you know if you have. Searching is always automatic assuming there is nothing of interest/dangerous in a room.

5. Death: When you die, don't worry, you can be reincarnated! You'll come back to the start and you may say "enter the maze" once again.

6. You may say anything you want in thread or by PM. You may discuss strategy with other players, make maps and share them, etc.

7. I assure you now that this game is not screwed up and it is solvable, but I am trying to mess with your heads a bit.

8. All players start the game with 1 gold coin and a 10-foot pole.

Good luck, and anyone who wants to play can play, there is no limit. First one to escape wins.

I enter the maze, but I will not touch anyone who follows me with a 10-foot pole.

I enter the maze.  I break my ten foot pole into two five-foot poles and sharpen the end of one of them.

Niku: You are standing in a room containing a ten foot statue of a golden dragon, reared up on its hind legs, breathing brilliant, crimson flames. The only door in this room is behind it on the southwest wall. Through the door you can see a large octagonal room, presumably with eight exits, though you can only see the four on the opposite side from where you stand. The dragon is not moving.

Exits: SW

Items: A 10-foot-pole, 1 gold coin.

I declare myself the Dragon King and attempt to fashion a crown out of the statue.  If it's really golden, it might be soft enough for me to break little bits of it off.  I could soften the golden bits by holding them near the dragon's breath, perhaps at the end of a five-foot pole.

Kazz: Hours of backbreaking, sweaty labor later you have fashioned a rough crown from the soft gold of the Dragon statue.

Exits: SW

Items: A 5-foot spear, a 2-foot pole (charred), 1 gold coin, a gold crown.

Waving my spear overhead, I declare this entranceway to be Dragon Hall, and myself the Baron of Dragon Hall (this in addition to being the Dragon King).  Niku can be the Duke of Dragon Hall if he likes, but he's making his own crown and it can't be as nice as mine.

I sit comfortably beneath the statue.

Kazz: A ghost zooms through the room from the southeast wall and snatches your crown.

"Yer majester! Ehehehe!"

It disappears with the crown through the northwest wall.

THE DRAGON KING, BARON OF DRAGON HALL, HAS BEEN SLIGHTED BY AN INCORPOREAL BRIGAND!  ONWARD!

Southwest, then through the northwest door.

Kazz: You rush into the octagonal room. There are indeed eight exits: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. You don't have time to closely inspect each door before rushing into the NW room. Black, green, red and yellow tiles adorn the entire floor except for where you stand. You are standing on a half-circle of purple marble on the SE side of the room. Across the room on the NW wall is another door. Through the NW door you can see a room littered with heavily charred bones.

Exits: SE, NW.

Items: A 5-foot spear, a 2-foot pole, 1 gold coin.

Kazz: The black tiles do nothing. When you press on a red, yellow or green tile an arrow sniks from the ceiling with lethal speed, passing through the space your head would have occupied.

Exits: SE, NW.

Items: A 5-foot spear, a 2-foot pole (charred), 1 gold coin.

Kazz: You are able to carry up to a maximum of 200 arrows wrapped in your shirt. The arrows seem to be endless. After a while they fade into the floor, with the exception of those you are holding. As they fade a gentle noise of static is briefly heard.

Exits: SE, NW.

Items: A 5-foot spear, a 2-foot pole (charred), 1 gold coin.

Kazz: The meat has been cooked, fried and charred from these bones. They are spilling in from the rooms to the N and W. Each of those rooms has a giant mirror.

The mirror in the room to the W is upright, facing N. Behind it are no bones. In front of it are the bones of several creatures, most of them human.

The mirror in the room to the N is also upright, facing W. Behind it are no bones. In front of it are the bones of several creatures, most of them human.

Each mirror faces a door. There is also a third exit to each room opposite the door you're looking through.

Exits: N, W, SE.

Items: A 5-foot pole, a 2-foot pole (charred), 1 gold coin, 200 arrows bundled in your shirt.

The Duke of Dragon Hall knows his time to shine.  I fashion a crown, better than Kazz's.

Niku: After several more hours than it took Kazz (he used all the easily-removed bits up), you fashion an even shoddier crown.

Exits: SW.

Items: A seven-foot pole (charred), 1 gold coin, a shoddy, golden crown.
