Yeah well, nobody expected Ozzy to outlive Dio either, and yet here we are.

Mick Anglo.

So is there a third comic book creator coming, or does Smokin' Joe count?

Mark Hall (of Cosgrove Hall) fits the theme a bit better.

That.. actually made my heart sink a little. I remember reading the story "The ship who sang" and it's still one of my favorites and the most formative of my opinion of sci-fi and transhumanism concepts. I have always intended to read the series, but my book collection parallels my video game collection in size and not getting completed.

If you excuse me, I have to grab every single one of the books off amazon now.

"It’s a proven fact that a single anal sex experience causes one to be homosexual. The hormones released by a sexual situation involving the anus being broached, are the same hormones found in large quantities in effeminate homosexual males. For example, when I was much younger I knew a young man who was for all intents and purposes, heterosexual. He was mugged, and involved in a rape situation involving a tent peg. This one event was enough to have him start on a road that eventually led to him becoming effeminate and gay."

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

So did Orson Scott Card, but it doesn't stop him from being a homophobic lunatic.

Course, I'm not aware of McCaffrey writing an entire book around the premise that you shouldn't sugar-coat obituaries.  So maybe "Don't mourn the homophobic lunatic" is less appropriate for her than it will be for him when he eventually dies.

Curious thing about that Anne McCaffrey quote on homosexuality: I can't find a source for it. There's vague references on a few websites to a blog post with a Q & A transcript, but that blog is missing, and there are very few other transcripts with that quote. I can't find a primary source, and one website just makes reference to a vague fanzine. No scans, no official word from McCaffrey and not even a name to the source. It's also one of the single most ridiculous quotes I've ever heard, and sounds like the "I'd rather black people not buy my clothes" quote you see attributed to just about every fashion designer.

"I'd rather black people not buy my clothes"

... unless you're Naomi Campbell, Iman, Tyra Banks or Alek Wek.

reportedly it's because republishing the contents of the interview was a sure-fire way to get a nasty letter from mccaffrey's lawyers for years, and she eventually made that whole quote's point sound less completely insane in a later interview ("renewable air force"). was originally a pointless tangent about why green dragons chose riders that were either women or total queens.

I only knew about her from her book "The ship who sang" so anything else about the author is unknown to me.

Well, out of context it could very well be a call for mass anal infiltration.

In that case, I'm way the hell ahead of you, Anne McCaffrey.

I'm just amused about the idea of transmissible homosexuality. Better not get a prostate exam any time soon guys.
