I'm just amused about the idea of transmissible homosexuality.

That's how everyone in Hamlet got it.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with Orson Scott Card?

Here is a thing: Social acceptance of homosexuality is relatively new! Medical and scientific explanations of homosexuality have been really fucking wrong in the past! Older people may have developed views based on the knowledge of their time! Just because your Uncle Bob still talks about niggers doesn't mean he can't have been a decent human being for most of his life and it doesn't mean you can't be sad he's dead!

I'm a little sad that I have to explain this, but at least one of the people is Norondor who is only being inflammatory as a misguided persona!

Well, sure.  And Neil Gaiman, at least, says that Anne McCaffrey was a very nice person.

Card really is a dick, though.  But he's still alive.

He's Mormon.

He was actually very nice and fairly charming when I met him in person, but then I was a teenager seeking an autograph and we didn't discuss his beliefs on homosexuality.

It's not a persona, but I was out of line.

A wonderful person died today, her name was Cindy. She was the wife of a local card shop owner and a major part of my high school life was spent in that shop after school and every Friday night. This was certainly not what I expected to wake up to.

I'm surprised to hear he was still alive, and saddened by the loss.

I was pretty surprised myself that he was still alive.

That show was a pretty big part of my childhood, and he was always one of my favourites. But then I've always liked the old seemingly-cranky characters.

Jerry Robinson, creator of Robin and the Joker and one of the most important people in comics history.

I saw the touring exhibit of Zap! Pow! Bam! The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books a few months back, and quite a lot of it was original art from Jerry's personal collection.  This was a guy who understood comics were important, were art, back when people still saw them as literally trash -- many of his originals are things he showed up at the printer's to rescue rather than letting them be thrown away after use.

He was one of the earliest people to preserve and share the history of the medium.  What a guy.

Joe Simon.

This is a sad week for comics.

Ah fuck.  At least he got that book out.

Not looking forward to finding out who the third will be.

EDIT: Well that was quick: Eduardo Barreto.  Doesn't have nearly the standing of Robinson or Simon, of course, but on the whole it's sadder to lose a man in his fifties to disease than a man in his late eighties or nineties to old age.

Doubling back to Joe Simon, Evanier's finally got a tribute up:

Once when I told him my lady friend would be joining us, he arrived with flowers for her. To this day, she often reminds me that Joe Simon brought her flowers and that I never do. My defense is that I'm just not as classy as Joe Simon. Which is true. Odds are you aren't as classy as Joe Simon, either.

Joe Bodolai

Most of us will probably know him as the co-writer of Wayne's World.

That's really a rough way to go though. Suicide by antifreeze at Christmas. Damn.

Here's his last blog post.

His last few tweets on his twitter account for the world to see as well.

His last youtube activity was three weeks ago.

I've read his blog, and his twitter. I know of no other active outlets. But it just seems on the 23rd he just crashed. He hadn't used twitter for almost two weeks, he suddenly posts this. The above mentioned blog post was posted on the 23rd. Blog post went up, he became super active on twitter. Stayed up all night to keep twittering (The reason why I say this is because his last post is on the 24th. Meaning it rolled over at midnight and his death wasn't discovered until two days later. 26th at 1:30 PM)

Man, Acadian Driftwood quotes... I know that song way too well to not feel that a bit in the gut. :(
