Then say that.

Or wait until there's more information.  It's not like you're a reporter under pressure to get the story out the door before the other networks scoop you.

That said, "dumb motherfucker" is more than a little disproportionate, Lyrai.

John Severin, of EC's celebrated Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat.  No further info as yet, but dude was 90 so I imagine that has something to do with it.

Holy shit, John Severin?

FYI, He was also Cracked's primary long-feature artist for most of it's print run.

Whenever I saw new stuff by him, I was always amazed he was still even alive, but this is sad news nonetheless.

Even Jack Kirby used to say that when he had to research some historical costume or weapon for a story, it was just as good to use a John Severin drawing as it was to find a photo of the real thing.
That's as good a summary of his body of work as can be.

Quote
At 13, in thrall to Tarzan, he ran away from home to live in the jungle. He survived there as a trapper with the aid of local peasants, returning to town periodically to sell the jaguar and ocelot skins he had collected.

He later studied literature and philosophy at a university in Buenos Aires and at 20, despondent over a failed love affair, resolved to kill himself by letting a jaguar attack him. When the planned confrontation ensued, however, reason prevailed — as did the gun he had with him.

In Panama, he met a pirate, applied for a job as a pirate’s apprentice and was taken on. He spent three years smuggling guns, liquor and cigarettes around the world, becoming captain of one of his boss’s boats, work that gave him superb navigational skills.

Chuck Norris now has to find a way to become immortal, otherwise he's going to face John Fairfax.

Not an obit (yet), but Daniel von Bargen shot himself in the head, survived, and called 911.

He's diabetic and the suicide attempt followed his being notified that he would need to have several toes amputated.

Maybe we can split this into an assisted suicide thread, because I am absolutely in favor of giving people a safe, comfortable means of choosing to die when their health fails, rather than undergo painful procedures and degraded quality of life.  And if von Bargen had been given that option, maybe he wouldn't have shot himself.

Seriously, I'm not advocating suicide (outside the parameters I set above), but if you're going to kill yourself, don't use a gun.  If you think your life is already so bad it's not worth living, imagine how much worse it would be if you survived a gunshot to the head.

Even if assisted suicide was absolutely legal, I don't think getting your toes amputated is a good enough reason for it.

It's not like diabetics get their toes amputated and then they're all better and live normal healthy lives, dude.

If you've already hit a point where they're cutting bits off you, you are looking at a long, agonizing slide.

I have a second uncle (or whatever. Second cousin's dad) accidentally shot himself in the face with a shotgun and lived with minor motor damage. His son tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the face and lived. A couple years later he tried to hang himself and then the rope broke.

Think he finally killed himself a few years ago. But hey!

Davy Jones, apparently, though there isn't much info as yet and every article I'm seeing is just quoting TMZ.

Breitbart.

It is a surprise.

And in the interest of not immediately saying terrible things about the recently-deceased, I'll leave it at that.  Be civil, guys.

Pure speculation but I'm assuming that means "heart attack".

Still pretty damn young for it.
