Oh -- I didn't realize Evanier's post about him was even an obit.  I thought he was just reminiscing to the first election he voted in because we've got another one of those things coming.

McGovern was right.  History has vindicated him time and again.

Any time I hear a Republican compare his opponent to McGovern, all I can think is "All right, asshole, but who does that make you?"

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Just got word that my great-uncle, Garth Brown, passed away today. (No condolences needed — he was 92 years old and had been sick a long time.)

Garth served on the USS Oklahoma. It was hit with three torpedoes on December 7, 1941. He was thrown from the ship, swam up through a layer of oil, and survived clinging to driftwood.

As it happens, that was the first of three times he would survive a sinking ship. (He wasn't much for swimming after that; I never saw him in a pool.)

Like I said, no condolences required.  But maybe take a minute to give a read to this azcentral piece from 2010; it's a pretty good summary of his military career.

And to any veterans reading: thanks for your service.

Larry L King -- that's the author and playwright, not the Larry King you first thought of when you read that name.

Charles Durning

Jeez, the guy's war record and childhood alone is enough stories for three lives.
