flash polls develop the narrative for the night, and thus the following days.

True.  It's basically a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Which is pretty much horseshit.  Sure, it's going our way THIS time, but something so random and unscientific clearly has the potential to be a double-edged sword.

These debates are only influencing incremental amounts of voters, true, but they also present opportunity, and that opportunity is slipping away from one candidate, and maintaining for the other.

And I'm sure we'll see that in REAL polls in the coming days, but, as you say, these are more revelatory of how the news media will spin the story in the coming days than what people are really thinking.

Hey remember when John Kerry quite clearly one the first debate and the narrative switched to how Bush was unfit for command?

No I don't know what my point us.

Insanity rarely prevails in these flash polls (the option to choose 'tie' helps), but fickleness can. Obama gained ground by proving himself to be more than an empty suit in the first debate, and continued upward last night. If I had to give weight to these flashes, I'd rate them above exit polls, which are conflated in even more asinine manners.

These particular polls may accurately reflect a single moment that nobody will remember come election day.

Honeycutt said he was disturbed when McCain referred to Obama as "that one."

"That pretty much cinched it right there for me," said Honeycutt, who voted for George W. Bush in 2004. "That showed a lot of disrespect for Sen. Obama."

And yet, with some major exceptions in Ohio in '04, exit polls are generally pretty accurate.

Looking at it again I'm not even sure what's going on anymore. But it still feels vaguely wrong.

You know what would be unlikely, but funny*? If McCain, really is some kind of terrible whitebread racist and - out of obvious necessity - has just become an expert at concealing it over the years.

Let me be clear that I DO NOT seriously imagine that this is the case, but it was an amusing thought.

*in that horrifying nightmare kind of way.

If I were held captive and tortured by a single ethnicity for several years, I think I would be a little racist too.

The stronger you punch, the better the door. So there are like super strong murderers who punch people into Venetian doors and shit"

They're called gooks, you insensitive shit.  Chinks are something else.  I know they all look alike to you, but fuck, make a little effort.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Look, TA, even if they want to make bogus distinctions between themselves to justify raping, killing, and eating each other (sometimes in that order), they're welcome to do it. I don't fucking care, because they're damned savages.
In summary: Gooks? Chinks? I'm the one with the gun.

This is not going to end well.

Well, either that or Russel Peters will come into play.

Bob Cesca notes that he corrected one African-American questioner and turned his back on another.

In his defense, it may have been coincidence.  I'd say the most likely explanation is that it wasn't because they were black but because they were almost certainly Obama supporters.

I'm pretty sure John McCain just absolutely detests Obama uniquely as a person, and not on account of his skin color.  Whether that makes you feel better or not kind of depends on how much you seem to think you're Barack Obama.
