Most people are aware of Texas's battle over school textbooks, as wingers have tried to Right-Wash history.  But leave it to Fox News to really ramp up the crazy:

Emotion Chip Data is really the best thing to come out of the Next Generation Star Trek movies.

Based upon an obscure Mark Twain story called "The Mysterious Stranger"

Oh man! I remember that claymation special (including that particular scene)! That shit was grand!

Also, I sure hope The Mysterious Stranger isn't considered that obscure.  ::(:

When most people think of Mark Twain, they think of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee (if that), not a story compiled from 3 unfinished manuscripts posthumously.

I don't know... I often think of his later work or his travel stuff. And the work he did on Grant's bio.

Maybe that's because that claymation movie was actually my introduction to Twain, which is kind of a bizarre way to be introduced to the man's work. His darker material was presented to me at a very young age and prior to his more widely known writing.

Granted, you're right and I'm a tiny minority, but I'd like to think that anyone who has more than a passing familiarity with Twain's work should at least have some vague awareness of what Mysterious Stranger is, even if they've never read it.
