Simo Belmo: Vampire Hunter Extraordinaire: Christmas Special

My favorite thing is that somehow the transcribe audio on this is magnitudes better than on the original.

I want to say it's something about how it's easier for a machine to understand a machine's intonations than a human's intonations

What if the machine in question has two distinct. Intonations.

So as I was ambling down the street with my cane to go buy some denture paste, I heard all the kids gabbing about some new band Macklemore. Curious, it was off to the YouTubes I went.

This actually reminds me of Gangnam Style in the sense that the video's just as much fun as the song (and maybe a little of the same spirit).

On Raccoons

The Nature of Things tends to have generally good documentaries. This one's on raccoons, which I can't help help but like because they're such smart little bastards (Starr and I call them "City councillors", but that's probably insulting to the raccoons on several levels). Anyway this documentary is particularly interesting because the main part of it is literally based in and around my neighbourhood.

I know! There's at least two long establishing shots of Logan & Danforth and I think I recognize some of those garages.

What?

What are we supposed to see in this video?

Sigh.. you guys..

Anyway, I'll try to explain.

The video is about some people fighting over who is the rightful owner of  a house. Although "owner" is  a wrong word. It's also of note pointing out how the discussions are intercalated with bursts of dancing, and how the children change moods very quickly: crying, happy, aggressive.

West Africans usually follow an local elder leader (called "soba" in this case"). Mass media allowed to replace that by a propaganda father figure. Works, but it's really... what's the word "ineffective" when it comes to dealing with local problems like this.

There are too many unwritten rules, that take too long to be forgotten. You know? Some social studies call this the "nomos", you know? It's interesting seeing it in action, screaming for its right to life. And the Chinese savior bit is funny too.

But what the fuck? I'm just too tired to be unpolite guys. Enjoy if you like. Bugger off if you don't? Something like that, yeah?

I don't understand any of the words being presented to me and quit watching after it seemed like it would be unintelligible throughout.
