Oh.  Then I spend too much time at the gym then.

(It's all cardio.)

Keep in mind that at the time I was also commuting by bicycle four days a week, and that my commute was just under 40 miles round trip.

EDIT: Yeah, I had/have some issues.

The regimen I linked above states that lifting more than twice a week (he recommends going every fourth day) is actually detrimental to muscle growth. Who knew?

My air force supervisor, who took it upon himself to coach me, was 100% certain that what you said is false - despite hearing otherwise from actual coaches and a doctor. He was a very stubborn man. Needless to say, going to the gym five days a week for running and weights resulted in my muscles wearing out and being sore almost all the time.

In fact, after our first day of training together, he worked my arms so hard that the next day - the start of my vacation - my arms were so stiff I could barely bend them. My entire trip was basically ruined.

I'm actually enjoying working out now that that stuff is long over, whenever I get around to actually doing it. It helps that I'm doing it with good friends now.

I've seen great results following the weightlifting regimen prescribed here. As of Sunday night, I was up to 162 lbs and feeling very good about things.

This is relevant to my interests.  Not that I need to gain weight or wish to hulk out, but gaining muscle and losing fat can only be good for me.

My problem is finding a specific weightlifting routine.  Sites tend to recommend ways to work out, but I don't see the exact exercises they recommend.  When I go to the gym, the sheer number of different exercises and equipment intimidates me, and I have no idea where to begin.  What's your strategy for what exercises to do?

In the article I linked, he recommends a routine of 4-7 "multi-joint" exercises. I have a LONG list of such exercises in a folder downstairs (PM me for this), but my personal routine is as follows:

1. chest press or incline press
2. leg press
3. pullover
4. hip adduction or leg extension
5. bicep curl
6. abdominal crunch
7. slow, unweighted tricep dips

All but the dips are done on Nautilus machines, so it's all very quick and easy. If you want to spend even less time in the gym, though, do the dips while you're in the sauna. Try not to puke!

Haha! Woo! I went to buy some pants yesterday, and it turns out I now fit in size 42 instead of 44! Meaning that now, instead of finding just one single pair of pants that fit me in the entire store, there were a whole 3! And two of them aren't even butt-ugly! Score!

:perfect: :8D: :attn:

yeah i think i used up my exclamation mark quota for the year up there

man i loves me some century gothic i gotta do this more often

Eh, what? A quick googling says 42 is two inches over the XXL upper limit, so inches sound right to me.

I'm pretty sure I'd be gigantic even if I wasn't fat. I guess we'll find out sooner or later!

i hope that's not obnoxious because I'm really digging it

I went to a Sonic for the first time ever today to get a Reese's cup milkshake.

Wow, those bitches actually wear roller skates!

Ahh, Sonic.  Harkening back to a time when you could actually say that.

The Sonic near my house in Fort Worth didn't have them wearing roller skates, but the one in Hurst near the Bell Helicopter plant did.  Must be a local choice, I guess.

It's a franchise, so I don't know if they can actually enforce the use of rollerskates.  They probably could if they really wanted to deal with all the bullshit legal hassles that would ensue.

We could just ask somebody who works at Sonic, but that would be too simple.

As an aside, I used to enjoy going to Sonic while in high school because all the car hops were smoking hot.  I mean, conversations usually devolved into me going "HERE's your MONey!" while looking sheepishly at the dashboard, but damn!  You know what I'm talking about?  Right?  Right?

Pretty girls get jobs?  I always thought they had everything given to them just for being pretty.
