Anyone who doesn't think mental illnesses are real should be forced to drop acid.  That'll show 'em what it's like to not be able to control your brain.

I'm a bit concerned that some of the disorders which get introduced are just small clusters of symptoms with little-to-no descriptive power when it comes to identifying the underlying problem or how to fix it.

What sort of mental illness gives symptoms which give no clue to the cause?  The $100 bucks a week is to not only fix problems you obviously have, but also to fix problems you don't even know you have.  And the fix of one problem can end up fixing another.

Or, you know, alcohol.

As much as people in our circle are inclined to make shit the hell up to explain their personality faults, I'm also sure most of us have or know somebody who has periodic bouts of incurable depression, anxiety, anger, libido etc.  So I don't think you're going to get that many "psychiatry is crap" comments from this peanut gallery.  The question is where to draw the line.

Probably right through the middle of what SoraCross is saying, in this case.  Obviously there's something wrong with the boy, but not so much that he's not accountable for his actions.

Only if something cool happened, like you imagined a rabbit man who told you to do things.

A simple name change can make a place sound way better than it probably was.

I'd check into a Rock Man treatment center any day of the week.

While I was there, the kid across from me was a satanist. Seriously. He went through a ton of packs of cards because he kept doing these weird 'rituals' late at night.

We learned that after hours, or on lockdown, we could talk to the people in the rooms connected to ours through the power outlets. Someone squealed, however, because one day I walked into my room to discover that they had drilled a cover onto them. That was the end of that.

I saw snow for the first time there.

You know how in Looney Tunes and stuff, the orderlies are fucking huge? THAT'S NOT AN EXAGGERATION. These guys could stare down a damned football team. REALLY nice guys, all of them. Pleasant to talk to, and always willing to just talk about the most inane shit. But holy shit, get the FUCK OUT OF THE WAY when someone starts to get out of control.

Realize, Rock Man was way, way out in a remote area. No nearby anything because of runners (And we did get to see a few runners).

Down the hill, if you behave and move up their behaviour scale thing, you can go to school. Normally, you were brought papers and shit, but it was still nice to get out daily. Now, in class one day, someone decides to bolt. Just leapt up out of their chair, raced for the door, and tried to split. The orderly with us was on him like a flash. The kid had slammed the door behind him to slow the orderly down.

It didn't work. The guy went straight THROUGH the door. Didn't even stop, just took the entire door and door frame off it's hinges charging after this kid.

More to come as I remember.

...was he burning the cards, or just rubbing them on his genitals until they disintegrated?

If there's a guy whose job is to take down an Unstoppable Force, then yeah, it stands to reason he's gonna have to be an Immovable Object.

If we had been allowed fire, he would have burned them, I'm sure. I think he DID do the rubbing thing at one point. The one that I saw him doing was tearing the corners off all the cards and placing them in weird points all along the room.

Every night, there would be someone watching the hallway. There was one guy..Lewis, I think? He was really, REALLY nice. If someone just couldn't sleep, he'd often chew the fat, he had a few LCD things he wouldn't mind sharing...then just one night we all turn in and it's Lewis! We all start to talk to him and he is just VICIOUS towards us. Never figured out what happened but from that point to when I went home he was mean and nasty towards us. Complete 180.
