New Game Releases
« on: October 08, 2008, 04:59:48 PM »

With all the releases coming this holiday season, I couldn't possibly make a topic for every game that interests me.

Sharkey has a good rundown of what's coming out these next couple months.

Things that interest me:

Left 4 Dead: oh hell yeah.

Fallout 3: Oblivion with guns?  Hell, I liked Oblivion (and never played much of Fallout 1 or 2).

Gears of War 2: Not much to add to this.  I will be getting it.

Far Cry 2: This one surprised me.  I never played FC1 or Crysis, and hadn't heard anything about the sequel until this article.  The paragraph has piqued my interest, however, and I'll be watching this carefully to see how it turns out.

Animal Crossing: City Folk: Animal Crossing on the Wii.  With voice chat, yay.

So post here about any unreleased games that are giving you gaming boners right now.

Fallout 3: I disliked Oblivion, I hate shooters that aren't Bioshock, and I could never get into the first two Fallout games. But hell if I'm not excited for Fallout 3. It could just be that mixing together all the shit I don't like makes a winning combo?

The Last Remnant: East Meets West with Ming Tsai was one of my favorite cooking shows. I don't see why the mix wouldn't naturally transfer to something otherwise completely unrelated.

Prince of Persia: This game look hotter than Christina Applegate in 1987 1989 1987. I loved Sands of Time, but kinda fell out of love when Princey got all emo. This game looks to bring back the charm as well as the gameplay. I hope.

Animal Crossing: City Folk: Yeah, I'll be getting this. I'm a sucker for AC, and I'm curious to see how well the mic and multiplayer work.

Rhythm Heaven: FUCK YES.

Things on my list I've paid for:

Dead Space - Cinematic space horror? Hell yeah.  Sounds like the kind of game I bought a big screen for.

Fable 2 - I cry a little more every time I see a review for this.  I want it to be good.

Fallout 3 - I have been a fan of the series forever.  Very few things could make this bad for me.  Please god let it have our favorite ghoul with a thing growing in his head.

Gears of War 2 - Five man online teams with friends lobby and FIGHT THE HORDE mode?  Dear god the exclusive lancer prop I'm getting from Amazon is just icing on the cake.  (Yes, I am that kind of nerd.  GIVE ME THE GUN NOW!)

Diving into Crysis: Warhead before revving up Far Cry 2, mos def. Warhead has been described as Crysis - Done - Right, but thinking back, most of my enjoyment with the original came from what was done hilariously wrong.

Silent Hill: Homecoming & Dead Space could make for a nice survival horror cocktail if I don't just breakdown and pick apart Left 4 Dead & Gears of War 2 instead (which I had thought would be coming out next year for whatever reason).

Duke Nukem Forever. :derp: Though you think I'm joking.

I've been playing Dragon Quest IV, and though I can truly, deeply understand why I've avoided this series like some drunken, shouting hobo in the street, it's really quite warm, inviting, and friendly after it settles down and you spend some time with it. Who knew? So I apparently have the same brain disorders that your average Japanese RPG fan has, and I'll probably get Dragon Quest V at launch.

More games coming soon!

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (Oct 21) - Portrait of Ruin was a little disappointing, but more Castlevania is always good.

Mirror's Edge (Nov 11) - Stuntman on feet.  Looks like a boatload of fun.

Fire Emblem DS is still listed as being released "2008" so I guess I have that to look forward to.

Gah, 5 is that soon?
The releases were six months apart in Japan, so there's good reason to believe they'll be six months apart outside of it, as well. I guess.

Well, I read Det's opening post and assumed that I could mention any upcoming games at all that I was interested in (hence Duke Nukem Neverever), not just ones that are relatively close to release. I didn't intend to get your or anyone else's hopes up, Thad.

As obviously imperfect a game as it was, I'm hoping that No More Heroes 2 gets a Wii port. The trailer graphics have me expecting a 360 version, which is the console that Suda 51 put his sights on to begin with. Which means that if it hits before Ghostbusters (which I assume no one else has mentioned here because they don't smeggin' need to), I'll just have to be reading about the fun every other nerd is having with it.

Honestly it's just that nowadays i am primed for it; my senses are highly-attuned to the first letters of game sub-titles.

actually i don't know what those are called, when you have the name and then the colon and then another name.
