The End Continues?
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:55:10 PM »

This is not a declaration of intent. I am not sure if I am going to be doing anything with this. I need some more time to think. However, I would like to know which people would prefer:

A Mulligan, retroactively choosing option 2 (Leave without Jacob) Or another story, set in the same world, with a new protagonist? (I'm not going to make David or Nicole the new main character. If you want to see more of them, vote for Mulligan.)

I obviously am not going to do both, if I choose to do either. But I've seen people wanting each, so. Here is a thread/poll.

For the record, I've offered to write a side-story if Friday wanted to take a breather.

One post a day, 23-24 hours of voting, most votes win.

I am really torn. I feel really invested in poor Wolfy and Nicole, and wish they could've met a better fate, but on the other hand I think giving us a mulligan would feel a little cheap.

Honestly, I would almost rather start over with a whole new story and setting. A big part of the fun was trying to piece together what was going on, and if we just start another character we're going to still have all of Wolfy's metagame information... it just wouldn't be the same.

Mulligan.  Blame curiosity, need for closure, etc.

I agree with LaserNiku.  I would want a whole new world, but I still would rather have a straight up epilogue that details the fate of Nicole.

I think that is exactly the kind of closure I do not want.

I'm throwing my support behind mulligan.  Save point, all that.  Seems a rather abrupt ending, and any new game won't feel the same simply because of how much metagame knowledge we possess.   Personally I'd rather see how "our" story turns out amidst the recent developments we've been given.

That's the thing, Friday said that an abrupt death was all but unavoidable, and it was incredibly lucky to make it as far as we did.  And if we died suddenly again, would we be clamoring for another resurrection?  I want to feel like we earned our progress.

Maybe I wasn't specific enough.  I posted in the other thread about just continuing the story piece by piece without Wolfy (or our input).  I don't want a quick paragraph saying "lol nicole died".

I voted mulligan. Dead Rising let you save once, right?

I certainly see the argument from both sides, and if it was ultimately decided that a new story/same world was the way to go, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

Still, I went on a The End binge yesterday, voted once and, hey, who's your dead friend? He's dead. The urge to read the story to its end is strong.

In either case, I'd really prefer an update/day update scheme with simple majority voting. Though I had the ability to check the status of THE END every 20 minutes, there are lots of players disappointed that they didn't have the chance to give their input in the form of a vote or commentary on many of the nodes.

How does a retry not rob away the gravity of each vote?

A side-story can answer just as many questions as a continuation.

abrupt death

Which ours was anything but.

The main reason I support trying that option over is because there are two choices.  It's not like we died out of 4 or 5 choices and we want to see what some other path could take us.  This is just an opportunity to continue the story.

I don't think continuing is a great option. Dying was pretty abrupt, but still, we were gonna die eventually either way, it's not like it seemed that easy to survive in the apocalypse, or like we were gonna be able to save the world or anything.

I, along with most everyone else just wants the story to continue. The game was fun, but a bit frustrating trying to sway people to your opinion at times. I'm sure you want the game to go on, Friday, so a mulligan is the best bet since, as stated above, a new character would just give us chances for meta-gaming at points.

Frankly, I'd be set on a F-Project-esque thread giving the rest of the story, either from our mulliganed position or another.
