Sei says pokers are flimsy and "ornamental."

But is he qualified to protect us from the worms, at a time when it counts the most?

Make the choice that's right for you...and right for Nicole.  Make the safe choice.  Vote Poker.

(paid for by the Poker for Weapon association)
Fellow minds, guess what I learned in school today?
I learned how a poker can marry a poker, and when I grow up, I can protect Nicole with a shovel.

These... These arguments for other blunt objects are compelling in ways that excite me beyond belief. In part because everybody else has basically only awesome ideas on the subject, I'm not going to change my vote. I will register this caution though:

We were too weak to maintain consciousness not long ago at all. Even if we have the strength to actually dramatically effect the internals, I'm sure we could not get reasonable odds at a heart shot with the poker/shovel. Even if we did get a good one with the poker, it'd be a bit of a waste. Retrieval would be a nightmare.

I guess all I mean to say is that the wrench and shovel have non-combat functions that no other tool can adequately mimic, so they deserve top consideration.

If hole-digging or pipe-changing become priorities I guarantee we'll have the time to go get the required tool. How can I guarantee that? Try digging a hole while people try to eat your face. You can't. So the only time we'll be digging a hole is when we have the time to go inside, grab the shovel, walk back out, crack a beer, dig for a while, trick someone else into helping by saying "I bet you can't dig any faster!" rub one out and salute our new Dark Master living in our brains.

Of all the blunt trauma options the wrench probably the most destructive, I'll give you that. That being said, unless it's a 2 and a half foot long pipe wrench (which it's probably not), it's not going to do us much good against these zombies. I mean, by the time you get close enough to do spread some hate with it, you're in range for a nice viney hug.

Also, you're not going to get the same kind of leverage with it as you would a two handed weapon... because you're not using two hands. You could use the other knife we picked up, but again, vine hugs are bad.

Then there's the fact that there's no "sharp" edges on it. That limits its uses as a tool and means as noted above that it won't exactly be ideal for finishing off Mr. McViney.

In our first encounter with a Faceless, we knocked it down with a shot to the head.  They don't have good balance.  Basically, any weapon long enough to reach them before they can reach us will be enough to get us past a Faceless.  We don't really have any good options for killing one outside of the butcher knife and poker, but I'm not sure that'll be necessary.  Everything except the drill should work here, if I have a good grasp on how long the vines are.

As for Crawlers, we need something easy to use, fast to swing, and lethal enough to kill it should it latch onto our weapon.  The bat, poker, wrench and butcher's knife could work.  The shovel is risky- if it grabs the shaft we're fucked.  The bat would be most intuitive to use here I think.  They're like fleshy baseballs!  If all else fails, we do have the small knife.  It's definitely lethal enough to kill a Crawler if one grabs us.  We could also try stabbing one in midair for the skill shot.

If a Cavine shows up we're dead.  About the only chance we'd have is a surprise attack with the butcher's knife or poker, and only if we know where its vitals are.

Personally, I'm favoring 2. the poker.  We can't easily kill a Faceless with the bat if one blocks our path, as useful as it might be against Crawlers.

You are fucking cruel if you're going to put me in the position of suggesting we not take the baseball bat.

If these were your average zombie or even just people we don't like, I'd be all for it. I am, however, going to have to go with the poker. Stabbing these things in the chest is our best bet, and we want to do it at the longest range possible. Even better, we don't need to swing the thing if we're stuck in a narrow space.

The shovel is not made for hitting things, and likely to break. Its usefulness as a tool is questionable. It's even more likely than the poker to break if used as a crowbar (please don't ever try that with our primary weapon unless it is, in fact, a crowbar,) and I don't see much need for digging in the near future. You can yell at me later if we come across a pirate map. With those things eliminated its only other possible use is as a fantastically inconvenient frying pan. Or maybe if we come across someone's backyard pizza oven with a key in the back or some such Resident Evil bullshit.

The power drill... now that's not even serious. Then again, there's precedent for the guy with the most ridiculous weapon ending up the lone survivor. Are we George Clooney? If we have time, please check to see if we're George Clooney. It might be the beginning of things making sense.

5. We may need to repair a sentry.

2. For all the reasons listed above.

2. Keep the poker.

You head back to the living room and grab the poker from where you left it. You put the bat down on the couch.

Heading to the kitchen, you open the pantry and pull out a can of peaches. You find a bowl, open the can with the can opener left on the counter, and pour them in. It's not exactly a three course meal, but you're hungry and it will give you a boost.

By the time you're finished, the house is still silent and empty. The sun is still fairly high in the sky. You'd estimate it to be around four or so. Where the hell are Nicole and David? It seems odd that they'd just leave you here without a note or anything, and be gone for this long.

You wait another ten or so minutes, thumbing through one of those murder mysteries. Still nothing. You begin to get a bit worried. David might have taken Nicole with him when he went out foraging to keep an eye on her, given your condition, but if he was going to be gone long you'd expect him to leave a note. Then again, he may just not have.

****************************************

1. Stay here and wait. You have no idea where they may have gone, and going out alone while you're still in recovery is probably not a good idea.

2. Head outside. You need to find them before it gets dark.

I don't like the idea of just sitting here in the dark with no knowledge of the situation.  I need to at least look outside and assess what's going on while it's still light.  I can make a call on whether to head into some kind of awful deathtrap house later if I don't bump into Nicole and David making their way back down the path to me.

2.  Even if it's just to wander around a little bit and then head back before sunset.  Can't risk not being there if I'm really needed.

(ps: posting in first-person voice is more fun.  try it.)

2. If there were zombies around, they sure as hell would have found us already, and we've been shown that houses of all sorts make poor protection anyway.

I didn't get to vote, but I just wanted to agree with this post. Agreeing so hard.

Still, would've voted for the poker.
