...so the skeleton vine buffalo are proximity alarms for whatever is in those houses? It must have been important then! Are they trying to hide from air raids by disguising themselves as well? HMM.

P.S. 2. We're gonna die. :nyoro~n:

2. Flaregun. Shoot it.

Jesse screams for you to run over and over as you pivot on the ground, bringing out your flaregun with one hand.

Steady. You blink. The creature takes another step toward you. A single worm shoots out of an eye socket, lunging ahead of the rest, the mouth opening hugely, impossibly.

You pull the trigger, and roll to the side.

KRRRSHHHHHARRRWWwwssssssssssss

The thing howls in pain and you get to your feet to see the entire animal waving its head back and forth, the worms writhing and twisting. Bits of flesh and worm fly off the body and head as it thrashes, sputtering and hissing. It looks like you hit it right in the face. The worms there, and also along the back of it, seem to have ignited. The smell of burnt, wet animal wafts into your nostrils.
You can feel the heat from the flare pressing against your skin.

Behind you, Jesse is still screaming to run.

******************************

1. Time to go. Hopefully you'll make it back to the car before this thing recovers.

2. You've got another shot. The fire seems to have hurt it. Reload, and shoot it again. Aim for the central mass of worms under the ribs.

3. Aim for the head.

1.  Take the chance and get the hell out.  Pausing to drop this thing fully isn't that hot an idea in a field full of others waiting to spring up.

1. Depending on how the fire spreads, it's going to reach the core area anyway.

Also, Faceless vines are extremely flammable, apparently.

"Extremely flammable" is a stretch.  Flares can get pretty hot.

Just saying, let's not try to take something out with a bic lighter based off this.

like the dude in Garth Ennis' Crossed that thought the buttrape zombies were vulnerable to salt cause one got some in his eyes so he tried to protect his family from the buttrape zombies with a circle of salt

needless to say they were all raped in the butt

1. Time to go. Hopefully you'll make it back to the car before this thing recovers.

You turn on your heel and run. Jesse runs beside you. Off to your right, about fifty yards away, another one of these things is rising from the corpse. It lets off another roar as it stands.

You take a quick peak over your shoulder to see the original creature beginning to move after you. It's still on fire. The heavy thud of hoof beats begins to follow you as you near the gate.

Jesse, slightly ahead, slides like a baseball player neatly under the lowest bar. You pause to duck under it, the thuds of the thing closing behind you getting louder in your ears.

As soon as you turn to run toward the car, the creature rams the gate, crashing into it with a loud scream of both worm and torn metal. The gate, obviously heavily reinforced, splits open as the creature passes through it. But in doing so, the thing loses its footing and slams into the ground.

You sprint ten feet behind Jesse to the car. Her legs flash back and forth in front of you, her arms pumping, her ponytail streaming behind her.

Jesse reaches the car and jumps into the driver's side. You shortly thereafter halfway sit, halfway dive into the passenger seat. You turn to look out the windshield to see the creature about twenty feet away, another one just coming through the shattered gate.

The car is already running. Jesse throws it into reverse and slams the pedal down. Tires squealing, you back out onto the highway, Jesse spinning the wheel to turn the vehicle. The buffalo rounds the corner onto the main highway.

Jesse lets off the gas, brakes, and shifts into drive. Once again slamming the gas down, she accelerates past the creature as the worms extend to tear metal away from the side of your car. The noise of it is like a thousand nails on a chalkboard.

The two creatures fall behind as you reach 80, 90 mph. The adrenaline begins to fade away from your system as you realize you are breathing heavily. Beside you, Jesse is in much the same state.

"Nice driving," you say, finally. "And, thanks for saving my life."

Jesse looks over at you. "Hey, I got one," she says.

"What?" you reply, confused.

"Bovines," she says.

Despite everything, you can't help but laugh.

***************************************

Fifteen minutes later and still no signs of anything other than pristine hillsides. You haven't talked much, just basking in the silence of being alive. Jesse for her part has given you a few long, concerned looks, but so far hasn't said anything.

Suddenly, she pulls off the side of the road. You look at her, questioning.

"Sorry," she says. "I think all the excitement overstimulated my bladder, or something," she says, stepping out of the car.

"I won't be a minute," she says over her shoulder as she begins to walk down a slope into some trees.

You get out of your seat and lean against the side of the car, letting the sun beat down on you. You close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let it out.

When you open your eyes Benny is standing in front of you, leaning against a telephone pole not far away, smiling with bloodless lips.

***********************************

1. Throttle him.

2. Ignore him. Get back in the car.

3. Talk to him. Ask him what happened back there with the paralyze thing.

Honestly, I'm curious if we have to actually talk out loud to talk to him.

Even if we do, and even if we're caught, I don't think Jessie is going to be completely freaked out by learning that we see stuff sometimes, seeing as she has worms in her head too and all.

I was thinking more along the lines of Molotovs or some kind of gasoline fire. Where did that flare gun come from? That might help determine if it was a higher temperature one. Search is not being very helpful with this.

The main character is specifically designed to be a blank slate, with maybe a few exceptions. You may know how to make gunpowder, or clean a gun, or first aid, but for all intents and purposes, our guy is a complete noob.

Obviously, outside of valley girls and 4chan, nobody knows nothing of value, so eventually you might discover something useful that you already knew.

Also, 3 is locked in. Unfortunately I got a blister on the tip of my finger today from work, so typing is pretty painful/awkward at the moment.
