I'd buy the fuck out of it if I had a Wii, and it might also have become the #1 reason for why I would want a Wii.
Not SECRET OF MOTHERFUCKING MANA?

I don't have any friends to play with. Also, I beat it with two other people on the Super Nintendo a long time ago.

Don't forget no real way to play it with friends located anywhere else but in your living room with you.

geo, when you finally complete Devils in Heaven, and Nintendo approaches you to re-release it with new graphics on the Wii, will you refuse outright because selling the game to a new audience is dumb?

Actually he'll say "no, pay me for an entirely new game instead".

No, my plan has always been to release a demo with a pay to register type dealy, like Mount & Blade. I'd make a Wii version if I was approached cause I think the Wii-mote could be a cool controller to play it with. There would be no graphic update, it would be a direct port.

Due to alphabetical order it would probably show up just below Cave Story in your game list on wiiware. I think Devils' little apple icon will look good next to Cave Story's little orange icon.

I don't have more than one controller, unless they've included wavebird support! :whoops:

anyway, yeah, totally buying cave story for wii. I'd just give Pixel money so he can stop doing horrible low-level salaryman bullshit to make a living, but this is frankly a better deal for me, so.

Well, he never had a donation link or anything. Probably this is because japanese banks still aren't sold on this whole "internet" thing and are pretty sure it's a passing fad!

 According to an old teacher who worked pretty hard to maintain dual citizenship, they're also basically a confederated and completely unified monopoly (... Isn't this called a trust?). Agreeing on interest rates and whatnot and basically shitting over all of their constituency in little ways thanks to that monopoly.

Geo probably doesn't even know how many years it took Pixel to make Cave Story, so if it actually was Pixel making a new game you'd most likely see it coming out for Wii2, or whatever they'd call the next nintendo console.

(Also, if Pixel had been hired to make a new game that would cost money, Geo would most likely be complaining about how much of a sellout he was being.)

But yeah, so he wants to make a quick buck while still reaching a bigger audience. Is this a bad thing somehow? Personally I enjoy Cave Story enough that I'd be willing to pay for it on Wii with the extra graphics and negligible content that has been added If it was a straight port I wouldn't pay for it, I can play it that way for free on my PC.

Geo, if you're that conflicted about the Wiiware title, just donate Pixel some money¹ for the original version and call it done.

¹If his site(?) even has a donate button anywhere.

Geo probably doesn't even know how many years it took Pixel to make Cave Story, so if it actually was Pixel making a new game you'd most likely see it coming out for Wii2, or whatever they'd call the next nintendo console.

It took Pixel 5 years to make Cave Story when he was working by himself with no support and had to support himself with a real job. Now, my experience in the game development industry is pretty limited, I've only ever worked on one little game for the blackberry on a team of two developers plus one artist, but I think he would beable to make a game faster with the support of a proper development company.

Yeah, I mean that was my point all along right, that Pixel shouldn't try to make any money off of his hard work? Oh wait, that's right, that was never my point. Patito is living in a world of make believe where Brent and I hadn't just already discussed this to death and there's still need for further discussion. Now I get it.

Let's flesh out Patito's world a little more.
  • Geo irrationally hates Cave Story and probably never even played it
  • Geo thinks all games should be free and certainly never wants to get paid for any of his games
  • Geo expressed some bullshit, Cobain-esque view on indie game development
  • Any other thing you can think of to jump on this bandwagon two days too late

Really I'm betting that Pixel is working on a new game right now and his involvement with the port is basically a red stamp of approval sort of thing.  No reason he can't get his just rewards for both though.

Geo's original post makes more sense if you imagine he thinks it's a retail release instead of a WiiWare download.

I don't know how successful it will be, especially since I don't have a good idea of how popular Cave Story is in Japan.  If the success of this release will encourage developers to let Pixel design a new game for commercial release with their team, then I'll be glad to help in that regard.

If not, I think the hours of enjoyment I got for free on the PC version is worth something as well.

Anyway, "N" for XBLA was a much dumber choice, and I didn't hear anyone complain about that.
