Related to Bal's post, talking about the very end of game sequence:

SUPER DUPER MEGA SPOILER.  DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU BEAT THE GAME.
I don't understand why Fawkes can't enter the last chamber and throw the switch so nobody has to die in the purifier.

I was really, really fucking pissed about this part.

I actually had him standing there in the fucking chamber, too. Like, looking right at the goddamn panel. With an intercom hooked up to him and everything. Are you fucking serious, Bethesda? I think it was a great game, but the ending was fucking stupid, and I am very frustrated that I cannot continue the game after the plot has been completed.
So close.  So close to being an awesome new spin on a classic.

Sigh.  Infecting my boss and former co-worker with the original Fallout and Fallout 2 so they can understand why I have this little uber smiley bobblehead on my desk.

While I'm on the subject, I found only two bobbleheads in Fallout 3.  The medical one and the science one.

I've found a good number of them, though I can't recall where they all were. An easy one is Strength in Lucas Simms' house in Megaton.

Repair in the mayor's house in Arefu. Charisma (or speech?) in the pimp's house in paradise falls. There's one in the vault with the
gary clones
whcih I think may be science or intelligence.

Science is in the Vault (106) with the
blue crazies
. I don't remember one in the vault you mentioned, but that doesn't mean anything.

The Intelligence on is on the Science Lab in Rivet City. They are pretty goddamn hard to spot overall.
Also, agreeing on the ending and the frustration at not being able to send your Super Mutant companion to do the job. It's not like he was too dumb to punch buttons, he had been using a computer for the last couple of years basically.

You can ask Fawkes to go in for you and he spouts some nonsense about not wanting to subvert your destiny, forcing you to go in yourself. It's stupid, and completely illogical. Worse still you can conceivably have a Ghoul or a god damn Robot with you at that same point, both of which should be able to do it. In the case of the Robot, he doesn't even have to be able to live BECAUSE HE'S A FUCKING ROBOT. Stupid ending is stupid
More mumbojumbo related to the ending and our disapointment in it.
A ghoul would be great!  He could live in there.  He could maintain it for us!

I am not so eager to blame the devs on this though.  Perhaps this is another KOTOR syndrome where they had to end it ahead of schedule.
I discovered on the fansite No Mutants Allowed that the fan fallout 2 patch was updated as of May 2008.  And there's two patches for Fallout 1.  One of them adapts the european 1.2 patch for the US game, then a 1.3 patch fixes scripting bugs.  As far as I can tell none of these patches add content, merely tweaks or corrects what was already in the game.
But that whole subverting destiny thing was dumb. If he didn't want to do it he should have come up with a better excuse, or just be frank about it. All in all I blame him for my death.

What's funny is that I had Fawkes with me, but didn't think to ask him to go into the purifier room. DUR DUR I IS SAMART I PLAYIGN VIDEO GAEMS HUR. Of course it wouldn't have worked anyway, but boy do I feel dumb for not even trying. Also, a "screw the purifier, I'm out of here" option would have been nice.
Side note: maybe we should have a "Fallout 3 spoilers" thread, where we can discuss stuff like this without making it so everything has to be highlighted?

My fiance is getting prepared to play this game, and I've already told her if she does not want to be depressed she shouldn't enter any of the vaults. Ever.
