Is the radio music supposed to sound choppy and terrible? On one hand, all the skips and pops sound like my computer is just glitching it out, but on the other hand both my sound cards screw it up in the exact same way. I'm wondering if it's something I should look at in the real world or if Three Dog just needs new turntables.

Yes.  One of the first things you do in the main quest is fix the radio signal.

Unless you're talking about after that, in which case, well, yes, they're supposed to sound like old records.  Which is kind of silly considering that Three Dog admits he doesn't even know what a disc is.

Random Fallout 3 observations:
 • Playing an evil character is really boring.  You've either got more stuff than you know what to do with because you steal everything you see, or you really don't have anything to do because you've killed most everybody.
 • If you do the math, your character is 19 at the start of the game.  Which means you really ought not to be able to drink 5 types of liquor and get strung out on drugs.  Oddly enough Nova says you're too young to have sex with, so maybe legal age for drinking and sex have just been reversed by 2077.
 • Fawkes is a girl.
 • One of the super mutant death gurgles sounds like they're saying "You must stop us."
 • I swear I had more than that.  Uhhh I'll update this list when I remember some other stuff.

Oh, I see. Well, I wouldn't know about that, I think I skipped a chunk of the main quest by random chance.
I stumbled on dad in that virtual reality vault; the last time I had heard of him was when Moriarty told me about the GNR.
Oh, neat.  Thanks for confirming that you can do that, I was wondering.

Yeah, you like cut out half the bullshit right there.  Good job.

Now I wonder what the minimum you have to do to get to Raven Rock is.

It's not even a proprietary engine.  Although the actual game logic is though, and it really is different between the two games.  For example, Fallout 3 seems to have grid-based movement for some reason (it's a very fine grid, but you can't possibly have not noticed that your character tends to keep moving until they've finished a step).  NPC behavior is different in general, and a bunch of other tweaks have changed stuff.  The main point being, you could try just straight importing maps and characters and items from Oblivion, but they probably will not work correctly.

That movement thing sounds more like it might be inverse kinematics or procedural animation or whatever instead of a grid; like the character is actually taking steps, with physics and all.

Sounds like, but no.  He stops in midstep in third-person.

Unless there's just something wrong with my computer.

Nah, I noticed the same thing.  I'm not sure what it is either.

There's a confirmed audio bug affecting just the radio music (not Three Dog's voice) apart from the quest to fix the transmitter.

Ooh, that's it then. The voice is fine, and the Enclave music screws up too.

In a strange way it's kind of a credit to the setting that I couldn't tell whether it was a technical issue or a deliberate aspect of the world. Heh.

...er, has Bethesda claimed its a bug?  Because it really does seem intentional - I mean, it sounds exactly like old records.

There is an intentional effect and then there is a very similar bug.

Well, in my case it's to a point where the music sounds genuinely terrible. I can't even stand to leave it on, it's that offensive. Maybe I'll see if I can record it.

Alright, so. Ken. I know I'm not the first to do this, but I put it here in case someone has better ideas than me.

Of course I had to give him 10 strength, endurance and agility. And 1 luck because that he's the unluckiest man alive. Tagged Medicine, Sneak, and Unarmed. He has like 2 perception, 3 charisma and 4 intelligence though, so, yeah. But it's not like he really needs those. (And I'm not counting on stat bobbleheads. I only know where Luck is and I don't want to spoil myself yet.)

Unarmed is surprisingly viable, at least at level 5 where I am. I can take super mutants with a single AP bar, and no raider has ever given me any trouble. I have to shoot up on jet, psycho and/or med-x to take on super mutant brutes though. (Yeah, Ken does drugs. I... Look, I know. I just pretend that's when he rips his shirt.)

Perk-wise, I'll take Intense Training to raise luck to 5, because Ken will need his crits (Finesse will take crits to an equivalent of 10 luck, so that's good). Educated seems out of character, but with only 4 intelligence I'll probably need it to take melee to 80 so I can pick up Ninja at level 20, without neglecting much needed upgrading in the tag skills. I'll have Iron Fist three times, Toughness, Adamantium Skeleton, Silent Running, Action Boy, Paralyzing Palm and Bloody Mess, for all the obvious reasons. I want to take Chemist and Chem Resistant as soon as possible, but I don't know if I'll have enough medicine skill. Probably. I'd like Better Criticals, but I'll never have 6 perception. That leaves me with another perk or two; I'll probably take Life Giver or Tag!, depending on where I am with my skill requirements.

It's fun to play so far. He's pretty much the same as my main, morality-wise, but I have to take the game at a different pace since I can't barge in gun blazings everywhere (at least until I can barge in fists blazing everywhere). Surprisingly it's not actually harder, just more... strategic. Unfortunately I do have to keep guns around; I can't punch turrets. Oh well.

the goddamn bobblehead is in megaton for fucks sake (if memory serves)

plus stats CANNOT go over 10

(or you can just use the cheat commands)

You have to be either evil or passively so to get the Strength bobblehead, so.

Then there's Ant Might.

I had good karma and got the Strength bobblehead!

And that was before I started cheating.

you can just walk in after simms does. (also all bobbleheads count as unowned so picking them up isn't theft)

If you talk to Burke, then go back to the sheriff and tell him Burke's plans, a little scene will play out that results in you getting the key with no karma lost (if memory serves).  Hopefully you're not too attached to the sheriff though.

Well, that's what I meant by passively evil.  I didn't kill him, I just arranged his death!

Most of the time I usually goad him into a gunfight anyway.  You actually lose no karma for mowing down most of Megaton if you get Simms to shoot at you first.

Or you can wait until the wee ours of the morning when he goes inside to eat and sleep and just walk in the front door, great him like a gentleman, and take the bobble head with no evil involved, passive or otherwise.
