I had the fortune of tuning to Fox News right before they called Ohio.  It was glorious.

Now you can relive that moment over and over and over.

For that matter, McCain was more classy in closing than Guild. I'm going to get a cavity.

I will say that I'm a bit disappointed in the popular vote so far. Obama still leads, but not by much.

Marginal popular, landslide electoral.  I call that poetic justice.

When you have the highest turnout in us election history, a few percentiles is a pretty fucking huge margin.

Also keep in mind they've only calculated about 7% of california, which is going to be a LOT of votes for obama.

We'll have to get the official count tomorrow morning, but so far neither candidate has beat John Kerry.  Not that I don't expect it to change.

On a less positive note, California Prop 8 looks like it's going to pass.  Ironically Obama's popularity is somewhat to blame for it, since he rallied a base largely composed of Catholics and Baptists.

We'll see if this whole "fuck the Bill of Rights" attitude holds up over the next two years, though.

The thing that has me most curious is whether a state constitution trumps federal legislation, assuming the legislation is itself constitutional.  'cause marriage, particularly what is or is not a marriable couple, is pretty definitely interstate commerce.

I just checked NBC and they said that while it is ahead, it is only with 9% of the vote counted.

If marriage rights didn't include social security benefits*, I'd say marriage definition was a states issue. I'd like to say it was a religious issue, but we've already fucked that situation to hell (about 220+ years ago).

*Not that social security means a damn thing to anyone under the age of forty.
