Dungeon Siege 3 annoyances
  • PC camera controls are lame. Latitudinal (<->) camera controls reverse, depending on whether or not your character is facing into or away from the camera. Gamepad controls, on the other hand, are pretty spot on.
  • No respec. No experimentation, only permanent commitment.
  • Forces you to allocate points as soon as they become available. You can not leave the menu and deal with decision making later. (Exception: if you do not have a character in your party, you do not have to pick the points corresponding to their level of experience. This allows you to, say, get the deepest skills right away, if you defer using a character for long enough.)
  • Can not take your existing character into someone else's multiplay.
  • Second (ad-hoc) player can freely switch between characters, but you can't. You're stuck controlling your starter.

When you have an MMO with a cash store, that's okay.

When you have an MMO with built-in voice chat, that's also okay.

When your MMO's built-in voice chat periodically plays unskippable audio ads for things in your cash store, that's not okay at all.

That would be Champions Online, with the voicechat that was added in yesterday's patch.

Fortunately due to APB's single audio slider VoiP is always completely inaudible anyway.

Playing Beyond Good And Evil.

Know what was an absolutely wonderful feature to this game? Having absolutely clunky EVERYTHING, especially combat, and then giving you a semi-limited* number of healing items for the entire game.

As I said elsewhere:
Quote
I really want to like this game -I like the setting and characters a lot; but absolutely anything and everything I've done so far in terms of actual gameplay has been clunky and poorly-conceived. It's not horrendous, but I would never describe it as "good".
There have been games that I have hated, and games that I have hated but understand the appeal of, but BG&E is the first time I've found a game where I point-blank do not understand why anyone -much less everyone- likes it.

*I have heard that the market in the Pedestrian district never runs out, but I haven't seen anything to either support or refute this. Every vending machine permanently sells out after you buy stuff.

I quit after the xtieth stealth segment where the camera thought Jade was another video game heroine and insisted on zooming up her ass.

Huh.  I thought the combat was plenty smooth, and if the healing was technically hardcapped the 60 or so full heals I grabbed up carried me through fine.

I didn't hate it!  I thought it was mostly pretty good!

Those races were bullshit but that's just things being bizarrely hard.

Is there a single non-racing game in existence that doesn't have bullshit racing segments?

There are the ones that don't have racing segments at all.

Doom didn't have a racing segment.

But if it did I am pretty sure Doomguy would be able to outrun anything he was up against easy.

I thought general consensus was that everyone loved it.
Huh.  I thought the combat was plenty smooth
But but but there's no block button!

Also: The second character has combat AI, but don't seem to deal any damage. They do, however, take damage, and get into situations where they get pinned down and demand assistance; plus they require healing items and health upgrades just like you do, and you still have to start the fight again if they die.

so basically what I'm getting at is that every enemy encounter is an escort mission

I quit BG&E at the first stealth section. A friend of mine got to the end, but then got stuck permanently due to some glitch, so I've never felt the urge to replay it.
