Right, what I should have asked is: is there a single racing segment in a non-racing game that isn't total bullshit?

Brentai answered it, though.

But the race in Chrono Trigger WAS bullshit. You just use a boost at the very end, bam, you win. I always just go up and down the whole time, to avoid bumping Johnny, and then boost at the finish line.

Bullshit Easy is tolerable.  Bullshit Hard is not.

Escape from Midgard Road Rash mini-game was pretty fun, and not bullshit.

I loved BG&E, and never really had a problem with any of the mechanics you guys are complaining about.

That wasn't a race, though.  You were just riding along and sword'n anybody that got near you.

Yeah.  There's a race minigame in FF7; that's not it.

Is there? Snowboarding is a time trial, a chocobo racing is actually just chocobo raising.

Motorcycle thing, Snowboarding thing, and Chocobo thing were all pretty fun and not things you had to get perfect in order to proceed in the game.

Doom didn't have a racing segment.

Ah, but what about all those times where you had to throw a switch and run to get through a door before it closed?

I'd be totally okay with Road Rash being the only racing game ever made, honestly.

That reminds me how incredibly sad I am that I own the last of the series to come out.

You know.

Road Rash 64.

:sadpanda:

It's such a great series. I'd love to see it with top-end graphics, ragdolls, bikes/cars/scenery that breaks when crashed/ran into/hit.

And Wipeout is just Mario Kart fused with F-Zero. The only thing lacking is taking a fist full of chain and clotheslining another dude right off his fucking bike with it.

This actually got me to poke around a bit to see if RR was ever going to get rereleased, and I actually found an article from 2009 about a semi-leak saying we might get a current-gen RR from Sebastian fucking Bach.

I'll just have to settle for playing as Grimm in the new Twisted Metal.

The only part of BG&E I actually enjoyed playing was the bit where you had to go around taking nature photos. You know, the ten minutes at the very beginning.

Timing-based puzzles in games where your character cannot be relied upon to move briskly.

I'm on a puzzle near the end of Zack and Wiki where you have less than ten seconds to point and click your way over to a frog, shake the Wiimote to turn it into a bomb, pick up the frogbomb, carry it to a circle on the floor, drop it in the circle, and get out of there.

nope nope nope nuh-uh

ninety percent chance of me trading this in and watching the ending on youtube or something right there

As I said on the other forum:

Golden Sun needs a tl;dr option.

I mean seriously.

Protip: constant ten-minute dialogue scenes don't make the player understand the story better; they make the player zone out and not understand the story at all.

It doesn't help that Golden Sun's story is always needlessly complicated for such an excuse plot.

Right now I think I just had a dude help some bad guys activate a thing that I promised a tree I wouldn't activate (because another tree said it was an evil lighthouse or something) so that a girl could could rescue the dude's sister from a King that was secretly the first girl's brother so that I can rescue a pirate because I promised another pirate that I would rescue him so that I could rescue the girl from the king.
But see, in order to activate the thing I needed to slap a giant bird, so I couldn't rescue the girl unless I had the help of the girl who wanted to rescue her (who has the magical ability to slap shit), and I couldn't get the girl who wanted to rescue the girl to join me unless I got some musicians to play a song, and I could only get the musicians to play the song by letting one of them seeing me slap a giant bird, so I needed the help of the dude who activated the evil lighthouse later, who has a glove that lets him slap shit.

fucking golden sun
