It is exactly that, actually. Well, without the boarder.

More and more I keep hearing horror stories about GFWL and am glad that they have yet to throw a game at me that I'll buy that I don't already have on one of Steam's Mega-Sale-Deal things.

Max Payne 2 today.

Hey guys, remember how Play-Asia basically charged me $150 for nothing? Their customer service told me, rather than how to fix the problem, that there was no problem.

I am beginning to hate Play-Asia.

I just want my handheld emulator. :sadpanda:

It's good to be back.

So I sent another message to Play-Asia telling them that my money still isn't back. The response was a truncated version of the last one.
So, basically, they stole $150 from me and their customer service response is to bluntly state that my problem didn't actually happen. Twice.

I am seriously never going to buy anything from Play-Asia again.

How did you transfer money to them?

Because if you used PayPal, a credit card (even a prepaid one, though I'm not 100% sure about that), or anything directly from your bank account, you should simply report it as fraud/theft to the appropriate authority.

I used one of those Vanilla Mastercards; so it's not linked to my bank account or anything. I've never had this kind of trouble with one before, even in the one previous instance where I got a refund for something.
I'm going to call Mastercard later.

Drawn and Quarterly is having another sale.

All of this still holds:

Drawn and Quarterly, too.

And just when I was wondering what to ask for for my birthday.

Ones I've got my eye on (as recommendations, not because I'm trawling for birthday presents):
Wilson -- Another critically-acclaimed book from Dan Clowes.
Masterpiece Comics -- Classic lit with superheroes.  I read Dostoevsky Comics a few years back; it was Crime and Punishment with the cast of Batman.  As good as it sounds, and now there's a whole book of them.
Nancy -- Until this past Free Comic Book Day, all I'd ever seen of Nancy were the dull-as-dishwater three-panel gag strips that they've been running in the papers far past their expiration date.  Imagine my surprise to find out that the original strips were frickin' amazing -- and SURREAL.
Get a Life -- I read a few of these strips in an FCBD offering too, some years back.  Good stuff.
Louis Riel -- Chester Brown's one of those legendary, transcendent figures in comics but I haven't read much of his work, just a few stray issues of Yummy Fur.  By all accounts, this is a good place to start, but if anyone has any better suggestions let me know.

And I'd like to hear other people's recommendations too.  D&Q does some truly wonderful stuff and I wish I knew more about it than, say, who had what color ring in Blackest Night or which artists Alan Moore is refusing to speak to.

(I got all of those for my birthday.  So far I have only had time to crack Nancy.  But it is wonderful.)

Oh awesome so I guess play-asia was telling the truth and it just took like a week and a half for things to get sorted out. Huh.

Anyway, I ordered my emulator. It should be here before the weekend.

presumably a GP2X or something similar.

I was pretty interested in the one Thinkgeek was selling but I looked up some reviews and the SNES and Genesis emulation is dicey, and I already have plenty of ways to emulate the other systems it could handle on the go.

A GP2X Wiz. Far more powerful and stylish. It can play just about anything less sophisticated than an N64 with no problems, and apparently some people have tried making PS1 emulators for it.

It showed up at work today, but it turns out Fedex charges Canadian tax on delivery. I work on Monday when they're supposed to bring it in again, so I'll be able to pay for it then.

Oh god, never buy anything from the US that has to be shipped here by courier.

First Class Airmail (Parcel Post) is so much cheaper for US-to-Canada shipments than anything else, it's ludicrous. It's also the only method that's even remotely close to being reasonably-priced anyway.

The Fedex charge on the site was only like a dollar more than standard shipping. I didn't know they charged on delivery too. Oh well. At least I'll have a neat emulator on Monday.

Also: Not shipping from US. Shipping from Hong Kong.

Let us know how it performs.  I really would like a solid SNES emulator on the go sometime.

Oh okay. That's not as bad.

You still get stuck with tax and extra import fees when someone uses a courier, but it's harder to ask for alternate shipping methods (i.e. besides what may or may not already be on offer) the further afield you're buying.

Plus I have no clue what's the most cost-effective shipping method for most other countries, though I guess you could find out with a modicum of research... if you really still cared at that point.

As long as the overall charges seemed reasonable (i.e. not to much worse than it would have cost you to reciprocate).

Except the PSP is pretty awful at emulating the SNES. It's great for NES, GB/C, Genesis, GBA, and PS1, though.
