they are an organization that is built on nothing other than hatred.  Their actions reveal a hatred of POC, women, and transgender people.
...
I believe in preventing cruelty against animals but not at the cost of dehumanizing the weakest members of society.

It's a terrible choice of words but I'd say your place in society is pretty weak(at the time) when you can be lynched without protection of law(or expecting it, at least?)

A terrible choice indeed.

In this instance, 'you' (the hypothetical you ) are being offended, especially if you're a person of colour because of the historical background of the clothing that PETA members are wearing in order to inspire debate in this round.

It is insensitive, stupid, but it does not demean anyone's "place in society"..  Especially in this instance when all that is being used is a harmless metaphor.

As the article itself points out, that's not even the apex of the sort of fucked-up that constantly spews out of that corner.  I wasn't even shocked at this point, it was more of a "Oh that PETA! "

(To be specific, I fully expect them to spell out the the phrase "DON'T EAT MEAT" with freshly murdered human corpses at this point, so they kind of have a high bar to meet.  Can't say they're not trying though.)

I've been thinking about a Moderates for Ethical Animal Treatment.  I think that'd be a great organization, don't you?

No PETA, bad PETA!

Fun fact: one of the reasons that it is fucking annoying when people just link to things without explanation or context is that sometimes the linked page changes.

There's not a goddamn thing about PETA on the page you linked; it's down on the second page now.

Here is a less obnoxious way you could have linked the same story:

Choice USA: PETA Fail

Quote
PETA is treating the assassination of Dr. Tiller as an opportunity to spread their message to the pro-life and pro-choice communities. According to Kansas.com the animal rights organization is planning to erect two billboards in Wichita, one that says “Pro-Life? Go Vegetarian,” and one that says “Pro-Choice? Choose Vegetarian.” Both show images of baby chicks.

What makes it extra fail (PETA's shitheaddery, not the link screw-up) is that if they had launched that campaign at any other time it would have been mostly harmless, and regardless it does bring up the valid point that people on either side of the abortion issue have cause to re-examine their own attitude towards meat consumption. But by launching it specifically around the time of the murder of a prominent abortion specialist, they're ghoulishly using the brutal murder of a living being to further their own ends, which (a) puts them right back into "jesus fuck PETA, can you be normal people for like 5 minutes?" territory, and (b) sorta undermines their own philosophy about being humane and ethical towards all life, since using someone's brutal murder to further your own message is definitely not ethical, and I doubt you could consider it humane, either.

PETA actually does not have any stake in the ethical treatment of human beings (or plants).

The thing about PETA is that their position is entirely based on having the moral high ground, a ground that they abandon at every opportunity.
