Isn't this thread for complaining how Disney is full of awful suits?

Incidentally, most minor of spoilers for someone who hasn't yet seen that trailer: [spoiler]poor Merida cut herself on her last arrow!

You know how Disney is trying to distance themselves from the whole "Princess" thing?

Turns out they're pretty much just shooting themselves in the foot.

Did I miss it, or does the article not even mention that they changed the title of the movie from "Princess of Mars"?

The whole thing seems like executive insanity but I think the article actually comes close to nailing the rationale for it.  At any given time, if Disney wants to tap the little girls market, it's more efficient for them to just slap together another shampoo bottle with Ariel's face on it than to go to all the trouble of making another feature-length movie.  If they actually want to expand their marketing dreadnought (and boy do they ever), they're going to have to put that movie-making division to work making inroads into the tap-the-little-girls market.

As fun as it is to gloat if you care about this stuff, the fact that they dumped way too much cash into a single film and then jettisoned it into the trashpile release period has nothing to do with its target audience whatsoever.

Has anybody seen those two movies Disney co-produced with Indian studios? English versions exist but there seems to be no convenient way to view them (though I haven't tried piracy yet). They might be tangentially relevant to Disney's recurring demographic woes.

Disney's The Sweatbox (2000)

This is a documentary on the troubled production of Kingdom of the Sun, the film that would eventually become The Emperor's New Groove. It was created as part of a deal Disney made with Sting in order to get him to make music for the film, and it was created by Sting's wife, Trudie Styler, and held by Disney under wraps since its creation.

Expect it to be taken down.

Wow, it sure is a good thing they changed Kuzco's name from Manco.

(Also, good thing I downloaded that movie, because it looks like it's been removed from YouTube already.)

"The cinematic genius behind John Carter" is the kind of sentence sarcasm quotes were invented for.

Fantasia: Music Evolved Announcement Trailer

I'm baffled as to what this has to do with Fantasia, at all.

So Disney is making Mickey shorts again.

I quite like the art style.  The animation style on the other hand .. bluh.  It IS possible for digital animation to not look cheap as hell, but they didn't exactly nail that here.

Croissants would be purchased from a boulangerie, not a patisserie. I'm in a world of pain here.

Mickey Mouse in No Service

Mickey Mouse in Yodelberg

So these are pretty friggin' great.  And sort of hammer home once again how unfortunate it is that Warner decided to waste its excellent new character designs on a "Bugs and Daffy are mismatched roommates" sitcom when it could be doing something like, well, this.
