Bustin' Makes Me Feel Good
« on: May 01, 2008, 02:38:09 PM »

Ghostbusters news.

The summary:

Quote
I'm cautious in my Ghostbusters assessment because the story will be a central component, and I have no sense of it after this sort of demo. If this were a generic ghost-catching game, I'd already be won over by the excellent physics and setting. But this is a revered franchise.

So it's a good ghost game, and a good busting game, but not a good ghostbusting game?

In that it doesn't make one feel good, apparently.

I just can't believe I'm reading a review that's saying, "The gameplay is excellent, but it really needs to be more of a based on a franchise game."

Maybe he's just a poor writer and not insane?

Not to say that all such games are garbage; your point is, of course, made and long since proven.

I basically have faith, because this is Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd writing Ghostbusters 3.

Also I am all for playing around with slime physics.

Devil's advocate: Ramis wrote Caddyshack 2, and Aykroyd wrote Blues Brothers 2000.

Still and all, I think cautious optimism is the way to go here.

Wow, no new information, yet worth 1100 diggs.

Columbia Pictures has been sitting on a sleeping giant, and Sierra is about to run away with it.

Ghostbusters picked up by Atari, still a year away

Reading this was the equivalent of a cold shower. Harsh, but likely worthwhile.

Hands-on report, prefaced by far more interesting demonstration story.

Quote from: BigDownload
Terminal Velocity held their breath as they watched the stoic group of IP holders, who in turn watched the team's presentation on a big screen.

... Silence maintained its foothold for a moment longer before one of the Sony executives spoke up. "Hand me the controller." Terminal was caught between a rock and a slimy place. The game was playable, but only to them, the developers who knew that the presentation was a carefully plotted, carefully paced experience. What if it crashed? Would their golden opportunity crash along with it?

... The Sony exec appeared to be a natural, jogging down the hallway, zapping Slimer, jerking his analog stick back and forth to reel in the entrapped ghost, and sealing the little bugger into the trap in a matter of moments.

The executive, a man easily worth more than the proton packs on the backs of all the Ghostbusters combined, leaped up from his chair and sprinted out of the room. He reappeared moments later, a cardboard box clutched to his chest. As he tossed it onto the floor, dozens of Ghostbusters action figures, video tapes, and miscellaneous memorabilia spilled out. "This," he proclaimed, "is going to be huge. We're going to bring back the toys, the movies -- everything."

After watching a high-powered executive regress to thirteen-year-old in a matter of minutes, the Terminal team couldn't help but grin. Ghostbusters: The Video Game was a go.

:HUGE: What was keeping you from cashing-in a decade ago, moneybags?!
:mahboi: Well, you see, Extreme Ghostbusters didn'-
:HUGE: SUCK A FAT ONE.

For some odd reason, I always remember two episodes in paryticular from The Real Ghostbusters.

1 - The ep. where they go to a town where everyone looks like Egon. Even the women.

2 - The ep. where Egon and Slimer exchange bodies. "Hm. In Slimer's body everything tastes like chicken."

I'm a little bummed that the PC is going to be a faceless silent protagonist. I really would have much preferred being able to play as all four of the Real Ghostbusters, and switching between them on the fly.

Otherwise, I'm totally motherfucking stoked. As long as the game is at least merely decent, it'll be completely awesome.

Ghostbusters 3 or gtho

I... Can't actually stop watching the game trailer. This one is going to be the reason why I get a Playstation 3 or X-Box 360, because that's what happens when you're eight years old and catch the sequel a hajillion times in the theater.

So both Stay-Puft and Gozer are coming back. I was wondering how you could have one without the other.

...Damn it, Ray.

WELL. At about the fourteenth viewing, I finally got "It wasn't me this time, I swear it." I'm chalking this one up to fanboy glee, okay? Okay.

I actually kinda dig the cartoony graphics on the Wii version.

...and I still hate Microsoft and Sony and don't have new console money anyway.
