I've been a bit quiet with drawing lately, bongo suggested that I should draw some pictures from photo references, so i'm gonna try that for a bit.

Supposed to be sigourney weaver, it doesn't really look much like her, but I run into that problem a lot with photo references, I think a lot of it is catching the little details.

And after that, I did this.

No photo reference, just a drawing in the same style, I guess. I really like drawing like this, maybe I should get into doing portraits?

Remember, the head has structure that is sometimes hidden by the hair!

There's a definite improvement evident in just those four pieces! If your goal is to draw the face with the maximum possible fidelity, rather than giving Sigourney Weaver freaky bug-eyes, then you should remember an advice that I heard once: focus less on the individual features of the face and more on the relations between them.

Hey, that was my first attempt at drawing a face from a photo reference! You'll have freaky bug eyes if you keep that up! *Shakes fist*

Did this while listening to the Con Air soundtrack, I really seem to have a lot of trouble with hair, i've never been any good at drawing the stuff.

It's amazing how well noticeable progress works as a source of motivation.

Yeah, exactly! I think it also helps that i'm doing something different and doing it well, Like, I had it in my head that I could only really draw one thing, which was mostly true.

Now i've just gotta keep at it.

I'm not as happy with this one as I was with the other ones, I think I just messed up the angle or something, because everything looks slightly off to me.

Here's a trick to help you: Look at it in a mirror.

Hm, I'm guessing it's mostly where the mouth and chin are? I probably won't fix it up, i'll just look out for it in new ones that I draw!

I'd have liked to do another one tonight, but i'm really tired, I wanna draw a lady this time, but I can't think of any more famous ladies I really like right now, i'll think about it tomorrow.

I went and bought some new drawing materials today, I got a stick of graphite, an 0.3mm mechanical pencil, and a little stand thing I can set at an angle and sit on my lap for resting my paper on.

I felt like trying something different, So I tried doing a body sketch, Shading is really damn hard on paper, it's difficult to get the proper darkness in an area.

Quick tip for hair: instead of hatching out curves of individual strands of hair, give the whole head of hair a strong, viable shape.

I will try that in future!

I figured i'd try draw kate in a more realistic style this time, it's sort of difficult, she's a strange looking lady, she has a big jaw and an upturned nose, but I am fairly happy with how it came out, I really like kate's wonky hairstyle, I just need to find a way to translate it to looking like actual hair.
