That's the spirit!  Maybe you'll finally break through the Meat Dimension this time around.

Is it even remotely worth it to jump through Margaret's hoops? Bringing Elizabeth on a date into the real world was charming as hell in P3, but MAN fusing personas is just about the least fun I have ever had in a video game.

I believe that the quests are a prerequisite for a social link. I would recommend logging the versions of creatures who fulfill her quest requirements.

... I do not think you will find it fun, no. You get RANK UP!!!
And she talks to you. Also I think she
fills you in on some of the aftermath of Persona 3
but I don't remember those details very well. She also recommends basically that you get bad ass personas. And because a huge part of the game for me was getting bad ass personas I would often fulfill her requirements before I got them.

I dunno, getting really awesome personas? It's a steep cost, I know.

Uhg, alright, I just got Naoto and dear lord is this game's combat getting tedious. Hit em with everything till you find a weakness, flip them over, and pile on. Every battle.

For as simple as the combat system is, boss fights go on about four times longer than they should. I DUNNO FOLKS I THINK I'M GONNA BAIL ON THIS ONE

I agree with him though.
The tweaks they did to the combat from the last game just made the game god awful. Which is terrible for many reasons.
And I really want to love the game because of the visual style.

No more tedious than P3, really.
The companion social links also help to give your friends additional personality and reasons to tolerate those insufferable personalities.

Yosuke, on the one hand, you're a dope who says stuff we've already figured out like it's news. But on the other hand, you took that deadly fist of god for me like a champ.

At least before the battles were "Attack them with the right attacks and they fall down! Then Press TRIANGLE and the battle is over." Now they are "Attack them with the right attacks and they fall down! Then pray you can knock the others down before they stand up! Oh, and sometimes everyone just stands up. After a second of laying down. How wacky!"

Before, as repetitive as it was, I could at least breeze by fights in a minute or so. In P4, I have to actively pay attention to a tiny fight that takes 15 minutes to win. Grinding is more of a chore.

So your saying having to pay attention in a rpg is worse then steamrolling it? I think your missing the point of SMT games.

If you're grinding in areas where the enemies are dangerous, you may be doing it wrong. Then again, aside from occasionally revisiting old zones to complete a quest that slipped my radar, I didn't do any grinding beyond slay everything in my path and complete all of the quests I found.

If you guys are having trouble with the game maybe you should take a break from the dungeon for a while.

I actually liked how enemies no longer lose a turn getting up. Making a foe miss a turn is a much bigger deal and it's virtually impossible to indefinitely stun foes. The game is a little more challenging and has slightly more interesting tactical decisions as a result.

Having to pay attention isn't bad when it comes to story and atmosphere and even good battles. While GRINDING FOR LEVELS just so you can beat the boss when you should have easily beaten them but they act like those blow-up punching bags, paying attention is a not great.
It makes that 15 minutes stretch out to an hour. And when I am doing that every 20 steps...

EDIT: Damn Classic. Yes. I understand that. But I am not that far INTO P4 because of my annoyance with the battling. I'm maybe on the third dungeon and I'ven't really gotten the freedom to do anything other than continually press 'X' while everyone talks and weeks pass at a time. It's a wonderful story but I don't seem to have any control over the character yet.

Really wish status effects worked on bosses, too. I never never have any reason to use them on regular enemies, and with abilities that boost element susceptibility, it doesn't feel too unbalanced if they just let you waste two turns boosting and using something like poison on a boss.

I thought status effects DID work on bosses, but with somewhere around 1/4 or 1/5 hit rate.
