Early this week we went over to my in-law's place to see them we, as we hadn't been over that way in a while. We get there and my father in law shows us this huge cyst in his armpit, basically he's got a staph infection like I had last year and it's pretty bad news. He can't get in to see the doctor because of an outstanding bill and he's dead broke, they're both on fixed incomes with social security and drowning in debt.

So I pay my bills the next day and I find that I'm flush with cash, so I'm browsing around on amazon and ebay and thinking about buying a mechanical keyboard. I've been wanting one for a while that was better than my shitty Dell ALPS mechanical and you can get Razer Blackwidows for about 60-70 bucks. But as I thought about it I realized it would be kind of selfish for me to get this for myself while my father in law is sick and can't afford to go to the doctor, so I sucked it up and gave him the money I would have spent.

Today I walked into one of those OPEN BOX DISCOUNT CLEARANCE stores where everything is at rock bottom prices because it's probably broken. And there on the table was a Razer blackwidow keyboard, marked down to 40 dollars, open box. I haggled them down to 20. It works perfectly and judging by the complete lack of wear, it has never been used. Today, Karma feels very real.

I won nanowrimo this year.

My story is unfinished and a huge fucking mess, but I crested 50k words in 30 days. Considering that I literally spent nine of those days playing videogames and procrastinating, I feel pretty good about it!

So in another episode of "Everybody I know is a lawyer", BHA and I got a priority mail letter from a US law firm. So here I am thinking "Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, what the hell did I do now?" when I open it and instead get this:

Plus two packs of Italian Return to Ravnica! (Italian is hard to get, due to LOLITALIANPOST)

I just violently expelled a few ounces of something from my head.
Now I can breathe and I'm not in any weird pain from the mesh! So this is pretty close to the best moment I've had in weeks.

"Why do you keep hitting yourself in the head with that hammer?"
"Because it feels so good when I stop."

Everything else good that happened to me recently involved realizing that I could again perform basic physical activity with only minor pain.

After only a week and a half of searching we found a car that I can afford and I'll get to go back to work on Friday.

To be fair, right now I'd apocalypse the world for a cup of cocoa, given the power.

With Christmas over I thought again about fixing the expensive boots I bought.

Turns out that the fancy-pants insoles are so thick and malformed that they were forcing my feet to be way too high in the boot. All I had to do was steal the old insoles out of my $60 boots and put them in the $250 boots and they fit great now. Ha!

I appear to have just gotten a paying gig doing a thing that I've been doing all my life for free anyway.

It doesn't look like it's going to pay very MUCH, mind, but...well, it's still a paying gig doing something I've done all my life for free anyway.

More once it's done, I should hope.
