The Royal Bank of Canada has one location in my town. That wasn't a problem for a while, but now that I don't have a car anymore and that it takes me 45 minutes just to get to the place, it was time to look for a more practical option. The Caisse Populaire Desjardins has three locations within 5 minutes, so, no brainer there. I set up an appointment for earlier this afternoon to open a new account and get my Visa RBC credit card transferred to a Visa Desjardins card.
I was kind of apprehensive, to be honest, what with the whole "i don't have a job lol" thing. Fortunately, at one point, the conversation went something like:
"I know I'm not rich, but at least I haven't been in debt ever since I paid off my student loan ten years ago."
"Believe me, to us, that means you're rich."
So yeah, flawless credit rating, paid less than 30 dollars' worth of interest in my entire life; they pretty much rolled out the red carpet for me. It was clear I could have asked for more than I got, services-wise, but I signed up for what little I needed and went on my merry way.
This is probably a depressing commentary on the sad state of personal finances in my community, but just this once I'm gonna let myself feel well and truly chuffed about it for a while.
