I mean, a happy accident, but still!

So, just split up with my lady of 4 months due to it turning into a long distance with the propspects of being a long-term long distance.  Worked well for one of the months until we both realized what we were getting into.

Then we both independently came to the same conclusion.  I don't know if there is such a thing as a best possible outcome for a breakup, but I think I made it there.

I love the 21st century.

The apartment I was looking into turned out to be a piece of shit. That's bad!

But I found a really nice one. It's big and it was just renovated so everything's shiny-new, and it's literally across the street from my current place of employment. That's good!

The only downside is that it's a bit expensive, so I'll need a second job if I want any spending money. That's bad!

But then I immediately discovered that the grocery store right beside my aforementioned place of employment is hiring. That's good!

We don't have a "my day averaged out to pretty average" thread so I thought I'd put it here.

I like this arrangement a lot. It looks like instead of a half-hour drive to get anywhere, from now on it's going to be a two-minute walk. Pretty much the only problem is moving out. I can only bring a limited amount of stuff, and I'm not telling my parents anything.

Maybe slowly move some stuff out over time, to a neutral third party's house who can hang on to it for you?

Anyway, in the Good Times category here, Starr got her Permanent Residence approved today. Time to start taking advantage of that Canadian health care! :goodnews:

Had a pizza party tonight at the pizzeria I work at. Invited a bunch of people. Only 12 out of the 30  showed up. We still finished the 42 incher as well as a few baskets of breadsticks. Everyone had a lot of fun. On top of that, I actually got to pay for everything. It's not often I get to treat my friends but I am glad when I can. Of course, it cost me two hundred to do so, but that's fine.

My best friend just took me to see

Evelyn Evelyn - My Space - live in Hamburg

and it was a fantastic show. But what I wanted to do was notify you all that they'll be in Montreal tonight at the Corona Theatre. 50% of the duo asked us to notify our friends in Montreal via text message (but I don't carry a cellphone) that they've only sold about a hundred tickets, so if you live in or near Montreal, you should go see it.

This means you.

20$ seems like a good deal for a new experience, even if only to meet the sort of people who go to this show, but for a week or so i've been considering myself lucky when I have 2-3 consecutive hours of consciousness; driving to montréal tonight is kind of out of the question

also, god bless my meatspace friends but they wouldn't pay to see a live music performance if their mp3 collection depended on it so yeah ::(:

If I say "Brentai is covering you in Goopy Slime" do you even know what that refers to?
Do you?

Explanation: there is a command on Synchronet's rather chaotic chat system that basically simply outputs the line "%x is covering %y in goopy slime."

It of course got used about 5 times per minute on Thad's little Telnet server.  And notably once on the other other boards, but I assume you got that part.

Well, I did remember hearing about that. So yes, I knew the context, though no I wasn't there at the time.

Mostly though, that post happened because I had forgotten (again) that Ocksi was Dima (i.e. Joxam was right).

There is another contest at work. The gist of it is whichever store sells the most subscription thingies in the district/country by the end of the month will get a prize. If our store wins, the biggest part of the prize (an iPad) goes to whoever sold the most of the aforementioned subscription thingies.

In a good week, I sell about five.
This week I sold twenty-two.

:B

Also I bought Advent Children Complete on Blu-Ray off a customer for five bucks, which is just about the maximum I'd spend on it. So BAD but so GOOD.

As a nice coda to the concert, we went down to a lovely little bistro on Bloor street the morning afterwards. They had SWEET POTATO WAFFLES  :cake: :want: :sogood:

Then I surprised Patrick by trading in a whole pile of Magic Cards and a few minis to get him started on his own Monsterpocalypse force. He got the Ares Mothership, one of the more powerful monsters. And in the afternoon, we played a marvelous game of Tales of The Arabian Nights, which is a board game with a big book of narrative paragraphs you read out whenever you have an encounter. It's sort of like those old Fighting Fantasy books, but you can embellish the stories if you're feeling grandiloquent.

I finally, after over a decade of putting it off, got myself a Wacom tablet. Yaaaaaaay. I'm no longer left behind in the digital arts!

Now I just have to figure out how to use this fucking thing.

Yes! I recently dug out the one my older brother got me like two years back.

Once you get past the initial learning curve it's really, really cool. I'm thinking of just outright replacing the mouse with it, the more I use it.

See, I did that for a while. It was terrible. I missed the short, quick movements my hands made instead of the long movements the tablet made me do. It took up less arm space as well.  And... it was hard to play TF2.

But if you can do it, kudos to you, man!

I actually got super good because of the way twisting your wrist will make you turn as you move in FPSes. I miss my Wacom tab...
