This is well established. I'm a lightningrod for misfortune, so everyone else can prosper.

Last month has been so good that I can suffer a massive head wound and laugh it off.

My old dremel (a crappy ancient one given to me for free) burnt out a little while ago. Didn't have money to justify trying to pick up a new one, even though it's an immensely useful tool for model stuff.

Then my tax return came. Didn't put me out of debt or anything, but it sure made the ole' monthly finances look better! Figured hey, I can start scouting Craigslist for a used dremel as well as picking up one or two other things.

Found a great deal - new dremel, still in the box, never used, guy only wanted $50 for it ($85+tax new). Since the listing was like two weeks old I figured it'd be long gone, but I emailed anyway. Turns out not only did the guy still have it, he could let me come by tonight to pick it up.

Went over. Not only was it a new dremel, he had like two cases of heads, bits and attachments. Easy another $75 worth of stuff. The guy was a classic case white-haired little old man. Used to be a cabinet maker and he'd finally retired because his eyesight was going. He wasn't poor by any means, but I sure as hell made him take another $10 for all the bits he was throwing in. He only wanted $50 because he'd picked it up as a spare so long ago the price tag which was still on the box read $59.99.

So that was like $200 of tools for $60. NOT BAD.

Plus I didn't die while riding home in a moderate downpour. Always nice that.

My girlfriend's been pissed at me, I'm not doing well in my AP Government and Politics class because I don't give a fuck, my father's smoking is making me sick, and I've been spending my mornings punching a brick wall until my knuckles bleed.

So today out of the blue a family member that lives across the country sent me a text message saying we were gonna hang out. We spent two hours talking in Starbucks (only left because it was closing), and venting about how our lives are going.

For the first time in months, I feel like tomorrow is actually a new day.

Something else that happened last night that I'd forgotten. Went to a friend's birthday party. He's a pretty good guy, but someone I really only see or talk to maybe once every six months or so.

I picked up a cheap bottle of white that was on sale. It didn't look too horrible as a gift that was decent but cheap (wine is usually a good small gift, hard to go wrong unless you inadvertently buy something foul). Really, I mostly I bought it because "Hey, this one's one sale and I never see the guy, so whatevs."

As it turned out, not only was he not really even expecting anything from me and figured I'd just stop by and hang out for a bit, but he also drinks that brand regularly (or is at least a convincing liar - good enough for me!).

Doctor called! Worst case scenario was not the case! Even though they told me they were looking for it.

So what if we are back to square one? DANCE TIME

Each department at my high school gives an award to two graduating seniors who excel in the given subject. I got one of the math awards.

If nothing goes wrong I'll be signing a lease agreement this afternoon.

This would put an end to almost seven years of apartment hunting.

Loan closes June 17, will probably start moving into my new condo June 24.

I'd have posted it before but it's conflicting pretty badly with my desire to get the hell out of where I'm working; it's basically one of the sturdiest locks I've put on my own cell door here.

Welp, it's official, I have my apartment. It's roomy (...enough), it's in a beautiful downtown neighborhood that's somehow a quiet middle-class enclave in a relatively rowdy low-income area, I can see the Yamaska river from my balcony, there's no mold, it's been freshly painted, with a renovated bathroom, windows and floors, I can afford it, and the landlord is willing to rent to me despite my illness.

I was beginning to despair about my prospects, what with all the dumps I've visited and had to consider over the years, but it looks like it might turn out to be worth the wait.

Either way it's the next chapter of my life, so I can't help but be excited!  :perfect:

On that subject, what are you doing for moneys these days?

(You don't need to answer that question if you don't want to - just wondering how the full picture looks)

Wellllll... Let's just say the number of employers who would hire a guy who cannot predict beyond 24 hours (on a good day) whether at any given time he will be awake or in a slumber that a sleep specialist has cheerfully described as "comatous" is rather low.

I've got a few classes in mind for whenever my doctors figure out a medication that my body doesn't develop a resistance to within a few weeks* and doesn't make me continually miserable**; we have a great École Professionelle here in town and that's probably my best bet for the future. In the meantime I've found a couple online courses in translation that I'd like to take, but since I have only one session of Cégep under my belt I'd need professional experience to get in, and legitimate experience in that domain is hard to get without the appropriate formation.

On the plus side, it's been theorized that a major change in my general life environment could positively affect my condition, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :yayoptimism:

*: Turns out my clever bastard of a sleep cycle adjusts itself and eventually works around the effect of external hormones/chemicals. The image that comes to mind is that of a regenerating troll who happens to have, say, a foot instead of a head, and when you cut it off, another foot grows back.

**: The results of their experiments with various antidepressants have been less than optimal. Perpetual and occasionally violent sleep drunkenness is not fun times, let me tell you. There's a great line in Portal 2:
"We're throwing science at the wall here to see what sticks.",
, and that's pretty much how it feels.

Ah. I knew your condition precluded steady employment, but for some reason I was thinking you had a little bit of off-and-on work somewhere.

Long story short: thing that was bothering me still technically applies, but job gave me a big enough wheelbarrow full of cash that it doesn't really matter.  I am tearing up my resume and looking for home insurance as we speak.

Woo hoo! Party at Brentai's!

I've already got people pretty much pencilling in the date.

I've only got 640 sqft I don't know what they're even going to do in there.
