Replaced the battery in my iPod.
I've got an old hand-me-down 60GB iPod Photo; I like it. It's way bigger than I need for my music collection, and makes for a good external hard drive. But its battery died some time ago and about a week ago it started giving me the Sad iPod Face. (Near as I can tell this was caused entirely by the dead battery, as it works fine since replacing it and running a chkdsk. Which is stupid.)
Still don't have a smartphone; will probably eventually get one just because I should probably learn to develop for the things. But this thing works fine for what I use it for -- keep my few gigs of music on it, and load it up with videos, codecs to play said videos, various diagnostic tools, emulators, and so on.
I'm also tempted to get a radio adapter for it, now that I've got a longish commute. NPR's just fine but I'm thinking I could switch it up now and again with some radio dramas or suchlike. Ideally I'd prefer to switch out my stereo for something with audio input, but I've done a bit of research and for my car that requires some extra fucking about with the wiring harness, including potentially disconnecting the airbags. So I'm a bit leery of that, but I know dudes whose automotive prowess I do in fact trust with my life. So I'll put it down as a "maybe someday".
Also I'm considering wiping the thing, putting Rockbox on it, and converting my CD's to FLAC. Because I really CAN tell the difference between m4a and FLAC.
Just not when I'm using a radio adapter.
EDIT: Come to think of it, the problem with a radio adapter would be this: most of them are cradle-shaped things that plug into the cigarette lighter. And the only working cigarette lighter in my car is near the floor on the passenger side, which would mean I wouldn't be able to reach my iPod. Not that people should be fucking with their iPods while driving anyway, but it would probably be good to have it somewhere where I could reach the Next button if appropriate.
EDIT 2:
$5 on Amazon? That's in my impulse-buy range, but it's hard to tell how long that cable is from the photo.
