Sure does. I can probably get a database or something set up if you need it, with the caveat that I've yet to set one up for any purpose whatsoever, so bear with some assured ineptitude.

Perhaps if you make fun of Kazz harder, he will want to come defend himself in a podcast.  Like, you could say that he isn't funny and no one ever loved him because he is so terrible at games.  He actually is terrible at games.  Maybe you should do a podcast on "Games we suck at" and then Kazz could come be the special guest at being terrible :D

I think I make a good case. To not spill into possible podcast material too soon, my opinion is that standard jRPGs don't offer anything other than story, which is no longer exclusive to them. No game play, no thinking. The only way they seem to have been able to better themselves is by tacking on parts of other genres (Tales real time combat, tactical RPGs, Persona being half a dating sim).

So really, jRPGs are half a genre! As far as I can see!

Is it no gameplay and depth or just a lack of gameplay and depth?  Because this is probably another thing like what happens in Real World where we both agree with each other for the most part but end up misreading what the other one is trying to say because of that one part that we don't agree on.

I will say that a lot of JRPGs these days are just coasting on brand name appeal despite their core gameplay not changing since the days when they were transliterations of pen-and-paper RPG systems, though.  But preferences of foreign markets are largely inscrutable to me, except for maybe the part that knows that Japan is in love with form, ritual and repetition.  Which explains why they love Dragon Quest so much despite the fact that they've been selling the same game over and over for nearly eighteen years.

...

I feel the sudden urge to make a gameplay - story alignment chart.

I don't know about the others, but don't look at Starcraft when you say that.

On reflection it really ought not to be a surprise that a genre whose main gameplay mechanic is "doing the same thing over and over again" is made up of properties that consist of the same thing over and over again.

This came from the country that invented the 48-hour workweek.  The Japanese honestly enjoy menial labor.  It's just what they do.

Now, I know nothing about web design and shit, but I have crafted* a functional RSS feed for this thing.

http://www.wfepodcast.com/rss.xml

This will give you all the episodes to date, and if you subscribe to this URL in iTunes, it'll add it to your subscribed podcasts.

*by that, I mean "hacked the old RSS feed for Jerk Radio to craft"

I don't know anything about mysql or wordpress, but if that would work better, then by all means.

Wordpress isn't hard to learn, but gets tricky if you start trying to make your own templating system.

Also if we bother to drop a content management system on there like wordpress, we're no longer the worst.

I propose we throw away all my previous ideas and only edit an index.html file that can only be edited in NOTEPAD.

The minimal work on Jerk Radio's main page is all I was seeking.

Making webpages in notepad is all I've ever known. :;_;:

I've never been completely satisfied with Jerk Radio's page in appearance, though I think it's about as good as we could get for notepad-editing simplicity at the time. I suppose I can cobble something together for WPE right now to cover up the open directory, until a more finalized layout is agreed upon.

OK, after a bit of inspiration thinking too much about a vague and minor aspect of a single version of BurgerTime, I've finished work on a preliminary design (and no, it's not as radical as this sentence made it sound). Go ahead and have a look-see if you'd like.

http://www.wfepodcast.com/

It looks best in Firefox, but should look fine in IE as well. Haven't tested any other browsers. It's relatively lean code, I hope, with the exception of a huge and ugly commented example on how to make an episode post like what I've done.

Some notes:
  • The topic "image" (guy/thing on the left on each bar) is a 45x45 pixel image by default, and is a representative of the guest or topic at hand in each podcast.
  • Crew images (blockheads on the right side of the bar) are set to 53 pixels high and 62 pixels wide by default. For the fun of it, I put a head per speaker in each podcast to indicate crowd size, with a few variations for unique flowers.
  • The download button is 36 high and 88 across by default.
  • Naturally, all these specifics can be altered through the style.css if we need to.

Hopefully this looks OK to everyone. That said, if there's any improvements anyone can think up, I welcome them. In fact, I encourage anyone who wants to improve on the site to edit and tweak whatever they can to make this page more awesome. I can upload the .psd files I used to make all the images if that helps, as well. I just wanted to serve as an icebreaker by getting some sort of temporary design up for starters -- I most certainly won't be offended if somebody wants to revamp it entirely to make it look less shitty. I can upload any changes anyone has, or if I'm not around, I'm sure Dohl could lend a hand in uploading anything as well.

Enjoy, and go nuts. :glee:

I really like the idea of unique head icons like Kayin and Zara. It's classy.

The sheer amount of red on the page gives me a serious headache... but that doesn't mean I don't like it.
