Joxam, go right ahead, and share what you come up with.

In other news, I was showering this morning (a place where a lot of my random ideas pop up, oddly enough), and I thought of a fun little activity:

As stated in the Phat Loot thread, Arc gave me a Dreamcast for Dirty Santa, and with it, a metric fuckton of burned games.  Someone selects a number between 1 and X, where X is the number of pages of the CD binder, and then roll a d4 or something, and I play the game at that location, and report my findings.  It could be anything between Bangai-O, and Typing of the Dead (with no Dreamcast Keyboard :nyoro~n:).  What does everyone else think?

Playing a game chosen at random all the way through seems like a fun idea, but for a "Let's Play" more than a podcast.

Where as in the LP you can do all the "haha, isn't this game horrible? Look at this screenshot, it's horrible!" stuff, a possible podcast listener only sees it as "do I want to spend the next forty minutes listen to a guy I don't know talk about a game I never have nor will play?"

At least that's my opinion.

That's why I'd say it'd only be a minor thing.  Maybe a five or ten-minute rant at best.

Playing a random Dreamcast game is just fuel for the 'What are you playing' part of the show.

We need to start thinking about material for show Beta 2.  I mean, I actually took the time to make some notes about talking to Kayin.

So far these parts of the show seem to be okay
Round-table videogame chat.
Talk to a guest.

Beyond that there is some random stammering, uhhhh, and dead silence.  Better planning can help reduce that.  I still don't have a better idea for how to keep cross-talk to a minimum since we can't SEE each other.

Round-table talk bits:
* What makes a game good (Optional: Genre specific? What makes a side-scrolling shooter good?)  One-Two game examples per seat, round-table replies after the person has made their point.

* What single situation in a game has pissed you off the most?  IWBTG has /immunity/ to this topic.  Don't think about it.

* Branch out into non-video game topics?  What Pen/Paper game are you playing?  (Some of you who don't RPG could mention the board werewolf games, and the dynamics about them.)

Other show events:
* Someone write a comedy sketch?  (We could re-enact some of my Tales from the Nerd Store stories.)

* Propose more guests!  All I can think of next in line to talk to is Zara, to catch on the Eversion craze while it's hot stuff.  ASK HIM IF HE PLANS TO SELL SHIRTS AND WHERE WE CAN GET THEM.  Ask him what his next game is?

* Obscure videogame trivia contest between show members.  Another podcast I like called Podthralls recorded their trivia game about obscure Warmachine miniatures lore.  They did it as a /drinking/ game.

* See if there is anything we could do to rope Silversong off #finalfight to talk about some of the horrors at GameStop.  Or any of you that work video-game retail perhaps.  Or I could ramble about hobby-game store stuff if it's decided that's legit show material.

BRAINSTORM DAMMIT.  Or at least say what ideas are good and what sucks.

I want discussion of video game mechanics that people find fun/awesome/would be cool to try.  Could focus on a specific genre or overall.  I'm thinking specific mechanics and how it is carried out.

Also, maybe I should get a mic.

Silence helps to organize thoughts, and is edited out of any worthwhile podcast. The crosstalk is nowhere near the problem you guys made it out to be.

I'd advise against the implementation of a variable bitrate like what Arc appears to have done with his edit, since it drives my older version of WinAmp a bit wonky in estimating the mp3 length and seems a bit unnecessary in general. I'd just use 64kbps...

64 @ 48 is fine, but you'll want to update all the same. Not listening to VBR casts must be paaaaaainful.

What about subjects like how gaming is an intersection of art, music and writing that engages the viewer in a way that film and television cannot?

Or heck, why not record our own farts and play them all back at the same time?

Record your own farts, and play them repeatedly and loudly over a guy trying to explain why video games are high art.

That is burlesque.

Because your fart is in the key of F sharp while everybody else's is in the key of F, and that's just really not okay.

I would actually really like to talk about moral decisions in games while Fallout 3 is still trendy. There are so many good points all the reviews I've heard and seen skipped over.

I wouldn't worry about morality issues in interactive entertainment going away.  I can only hope for the sort of false choices associated with them being alleviated, though.

Like I said, biweekly.  This Sunday-ish.  Unless I'm doing something else, like roaming the English countryside.
