Let's Get Conventional
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:12:05 AM »

So normally there are only two conventions I go to every year since they are the only two reasonably close to me. Ohayocon and Colossalcon. Ohayocon is up in the air for me this year and happens at the end of the month, pending whether I get unemployment confirmed before the end of the month after I get laid off next week. But later on in June there's Colossalcon, another anime con that is moving to Sandusky this year since it seems to keep growing larger each year. Normally that's nothing special, but they are moving to a larger convention center/hotel resort that also has a water park! At but a mere $118 a night for a room, you get awesome room, and 4 passes to the waterpark at no charge($20 for each after). I am aware that very few of you live near the area, but there is much potential for a great weekend here.

That'd be awesome to do to but it's in June after school lets out. I don't want to waste half the convention weekend waiting in line for roller coasters, even though I LOVE roller coasters.

I have been thinking lately that it might be a fun thing for me to do one of these. Is there some sort of master list of noteworthy conventions by location?

If I made enough money to visit any US convention I'd have to pay taxes

They'd make me fill in FORMS  :ohshi~:

Noteworthy and otherwise. I'm mostly a gaming convention person, and for that the only noteworth conventions are Gencon and Dragoncon.  Origins used to be big, but then wizards left because Upper Deck was allowed to run a big tournament at the con, so Upper Deck left because wizards wasn't there anymore.  ::(:

I will study this. And also consult a convention-going friend of mine.

My tentative plans are to take three days off.  Despite getting a four day pass, we're only going to enjoy three days of the con.  I'm going to be carpooling with some local gamers and the shop owner.  Leave Wednesday, return Sunday.

We will be using a hotel a fair distance away from the actual con, so I can't really split with anyone.

If there's much of a WFE presence at Gen Con Indy, I think I'll probably go.

Sign up before the Bring Your Own Computer room is full and you can play computer games!  With Niku!  Convention is free, travel/hotel is of course not.
