It takes one man to nominate, it takes several to vote.

I actually enjoy Hydro a lot, but the one thing I can't stand is why some people start rtving as soon as we change into a map they don't like.I mean, the map just won the rtv so it's obvious that the majority of people wanted that map.

Yes, this also means I won't start rtv if the map changes to 2fort, we can always play at least two rounds on every map.

I'll try to tolerate a single round of 2fort and hydro because I know it's not Niku's fault that nine other dudes are trying to be "funny", but the maps really are just terrible.

Note that in this case, terrible means "Can be shut down 90% of the time by the presence of two engineers amongst both teams." This is also why I have to grit my teeth on the second stage of Hooloo and that Turbine is the only exception because it's small size typically lets an Uber get the job done.

Dustbowl and Gold Rush 3-Last Point are like pulling teeth unless you're really hard-up for rifle sniping or nightmare mode spying.

I dunno about Badwater's last point. Badwater is SUCH a good map, and it's not quite the map's fault if nobody pushes the cart.... I dunno.

Pretty much this.

The only maps I genuinely don't enjoy these days that I can think of are probably Granary and ctf_Well.  Anything else I can have fun on, one way or another.

2fort was actually bearable when operation EVERYONE GETS A WRENCH kicked off.  It was like some kind of cult, maybe a full blood religion.  I'm sure it looked like fields of delicious steak to spies.

Oh yeah, I am not a fan of Junction either.   But then, I always forget it exists, period.

Right, so everybody hates 2 different maps than everybody else hates, resulting in perpetual rtv.

Give us a new map, any map. One that cannot be pre-emptively hated.  No.  No, don't ask Kazz to make CP_Awesome.

Pretty much this.

Hey, it is Badwater's fault that the last point encourages red team to put two sentries in the same two spots every fucking time while the other ten guys run into the meat grinder. This is a pretty finely split hair, admittedly. I dunno.. note how no matter how many guns are on the roof or in the spawn cliffs, the game advances at a decent clip? But those two spots at the last point...

Also Max the 5 dudes in this thread do not equal everybody. Like I said, folks don't like certain maps but they can grin and bear it. Unbiased, terribad maps are another thing entirely.

I think I'm the only person who actually likes Granary on the server. The only maps I don't like really are Fastlane, 2fort and Hydro.

Fastlane is too straight forward, since unlike it's preferable tug-o-war brothers Granary and Well, it has a very boring and overly simple middle point section. Granary's storage container courtyard and Well's central building are much more elaborate and allow for a fun vertical aspect that is lost in fastlane making it very boring.

2Fort is just too damn fortifiable which results in most players giving up on the intel which seems like it's stuck down an angry dragon's ureathra, and just resort to killing other players which is much easier to accomplish and feels just as rewarding if not more.

Hydro just sucks.

I love Granary for the reasons you listed. Granary has so many points of access and travel!

Kinda distasteful if your teams are smaller than 7v7 and you aren't in the mood for scoots, though.

My only two problems with Granary are mostly that it is incredibly susceptible to steam rolling in my experience, and that I have played on it so fucking much over time that I am just kind of sick of it.

So, uh, does pl_strider have some crippling flaw I'm not aware of?  I've only managed to catch it once on some pub server, and it was suitably awesome.  Maybe it's a conspiracy to avoid maps where people are encouraged to play Soldier, I dunno.

As I've said recently in-game, it's getting kind of irritating that people are all (very small) boners over changing the map every 5 minutes.  I mean, I know sometimes it isn't fun to play a map for 30 minutes, but one round on each side is pretty uninteresting; you don't really have any time to adapt to the other team (not that anyone on Shadow Moses switches to anything but pyro).

I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes it can be interesting to play a map more than 5 minutes, and it also helps stop the problem of not enough good maps on the server.

I am told that 2fort is fine if you've got a small number of players and every one of them is coordinating over non-alltalk voice chat. I wouldn't know; I never play under these circumstances.

Rico: the problem is we've all got the attention spans of hey what's that
