Really good night last night.  Unfortunate that arena maps will load at the end of rounds though when you have 18 people on the server.

YOU ASKED FOR ARENA MAPS TO BE ADDED TO THE NOMINATE LIST. THIS IS THE SIDE EFFECT.

consider adding a nominate function so you can still nominate the same six maps every RTV

It is difficult when the vote is thus:

1) ctf_Well
2) arena_watchtower
3) arena_nucleus
4) arena_badlands
5) koth_lighthouse

It is like the game is punching us in the nutsack*.

It'd be neat if there were a way for the game to not have arena maps on the rtv list when there are x amount of people so that it's not an issue.  It isn't a big deal anyway, but I think people leave when they see arena maps come up, which is really what makes it unfortunate.

other than Well those seem fine (though i haven't played the koth map ever)

also just consider adding more custom maps (not gimmicks)

there aren't many good ones though :[

pl_cave is pretty okay

cp_corporation is like dustbowl but it starts on a boat :nauticalthemedpashminaafghan: and ends in a high rise

uhhhh

you play frontier right? cashworks? when i remember more decent customs i'll post them

Arena maps are detrimental to more than 8 players.  People tend to leave the server and everyone really just wants to push the cart.

Exactly what I was saying.  It's a sad issue.  Pushing the cart is rather delightful though.

Consider getting the Arena plugin that lets you choose teams and has an optional setup timer. The ATF server uses it and so do a few others. It (1) makes Arena more tolerable and (2) reminds you that Arena is actually fun if you are any good.

See, the big issue isn't that arena isn't fun.  We enjoy it.  It's just that with large number of players you can end up sitting out for large swaths of time while the two scouts or pyros left alive are doing circles around the outside of the map.

And if there is an odd number of players then somebody has to sit out and just watch and entire round.

I don't think you even need a plugin to set up arena with the option to choose team. Also, the server does have frontier and aerospace when it comes to customs, but some people for some reason still haven't downloaded them or even played once on them which is really weird as they are pretty fun maps.

I think one of the reasons the ATF server uses a plugin is so that no one has to sit out. And I don't see why more players makes arena less fun? It makes it more fun for me, but okay, different strokes. I've played on SM twice ever, so no big deal to me, really.

We generally get a lot of drop-off when/if arena comes up with a lot of players.  The general rule is if it's 5v5, that's about the most you want to see on arena.  Otherwise, everyone wants to switch to ctf or cp or stuff.

Understandable. Arena for me is kind of a wild hair thing, honestly, so I don't know why I am defending it so much.

Basically, we need to be diligent about nominating non-arena when we have several people up so that it doesn't end up on the rtv list.  It's not a big thing, just something we need to be aware of.

Also, if the map changes to arena when a lot of people are on: rock the vote? That still works on arena maps.

We do, but people drop as soon as they see that the map is changing to an arena mode.

I like that the scramble feature doesn't work because we can't convince 1/3 of the winning team to use it.  :nyoro~n:
