I think the idea is that they want to play with pleasant folk, and in the pursuit of that noble goal have hewn overzealously to the heuristic they use to determine if a person's rude or not.

I started playing SFIV, but I say we should just randomly invade pubs, since we don't have enough people to fill shadow moses anymore it seems

Again with myself, I'm stuck on an eee whilst training young aspiring soldats on an army camp.

Anyone else got a better excuse for not taking the mantle of the soldier class?

No, I didn't think so.

I dare you to quote the entire Meet The Soldier speech.

Bonus points to any recruit who gets it.

Yesterday was odd... I played for a really long time and for most of the day I was actually playing pretty damn well, better than I usually do. It's nice to briefly know what it feels like to be semi-competent.

What made it stupid was the fact that I spent pretty much the whole time being on the losing team, regardless of players server, or map. Sometimes I would switch teams, not to 'join the winning team', but to get the fuck off the whining team - only to have the formerly dominant team start losing.

Five or six hours of straight play, most of that time spent losing, but also spent occupying the second, third, or fourth spot on the server. So, uh, go go personal glory fortress?

WELCOME TO MY HELL

you can only personal glory for so long in a row and even then you begin to seriously feel the impact of not having anyone competent enough to ensure that, say, your spawn isn't camped or that the same spy won't check your favorite sniper nest as your three pyros kamikaze into sentries

On one of the smaller maps last night, the scoreboard looked like this:

MY TEAM
Someguy - 52
Smedley D. Butler - 28
Otherdork - 0
Noobsauce - 0

THEIR TEAM
Does it really matter other than the fact that even their worst players managed to at least get into the double digits?

I mean, you have to be COSMICALLY bad to get a score of ZERO in this game. On Payload. On Offense.

That is pretty comical.

Payload is pretty much freepoints for both offense and defense. Pushing the cart any significant distance racks you up 5-10 points on its own, plus you are standing next to a dispenser the whole time so kills shouldn't be too hard to come by. On Defense any "Geothermal has defended the cart" message is free points plus the points for killing everyone near the cart at that time to get that message in the first place. I always laugh when I'm playing say a demoman and scouts keep trying to single push the cart past sentries. A scout hugging the cart to avoid sentry fire is basically 1 point for the kill and then I think 3 for the cart defense confirm/deny?

Of course, cart hugging past sentries is actually the best way to win pretty much any PL map as long as you coordinate with teamates so that they support you by attacking from one or two flanks while you hug-push. That way anyone trying to get an angle on you around the cart should get killed by your support teams (hopefully soldiers or something like that) and anytime the RED team spends trying to kill or supress them should allow you to push unharrassed during that time. Medic + Pyro is probably smarter than a scout though. You're a good combination for close cart combat (or "Triple-C") and you've got a shot at poofering projectiles or ubers away.

A lot of players are really reluctant to throw their life away to nudge the cart forward. Even on overtime, for god's sake.

Geez tell me about it. I know I'm a little kamikaze crazy, but people who view 'dying in game' with the same terror as 'dying IN REAL LIFE OH SHIT' are only one step removed from people who are as disgusted by getting Jarate'd as if they they just had real urine thrown on them.

At least the latter bunch are funnier.

Dear lord McDohl, I am so glad you were there to help me become the horrible monster of Whatever Pub Server that was. I don't mean to sound like a horrible braggart, but I am going to.

I was on some pub server, being the best by like 30 points as Soldier. McDohl joins and starts healing me, and that is when the shit starts.

Stage one, point two of gold rush. I am coming off the far left building, along the lefthand side of RED spawn. A medic appears and gives me a Kritzkrieg pretty much out of nowhere, so I use four rockets to kill something like 7 or 8 people all standing in that little nook. I use the shotgun to mow down a medic, two level one sentries, and a teleporter. Around this time a soldier and a medic spawn, so I shovel them. I run away, using my last three shotgun blasts, and that medic dies. I backtrack down the hall, jumping over a level one sentry being built and shoveling it away on the way by, then emerge out near the cart as it nears the point. A sentry is on the roof, and I am at 4 health. A medic ubers me. I take it out, take out more of their team, and cap.

One of these medics was McDohl, and there were at least two more. This resulted in me breaking my buildings destroyed record, points in a round record, and kills in a round record, all as soldier. (Actually, Norondor's records, but who's keeping track.) 6, 24, I don't remember (respectively).

There were times we just didn't get off the cart.

I mostly lost dominations to ragequits rather than revenges.

I would be using that slime emoticon here if I liked emoticons.

God, that was a beautiful round. :8D:  The team pretty much went downhill after you left, though one brilliant dual Engie team, of which I was one of, managed to hold the roof on the second point of Badwater with one set of Engie gear.  Once my stuff was set up, we delighted as they threw themselves against the decoy sentry he kept building and I kept upgrading to level 3, and any time they tried the roof, they got blown up.  I got worried when the Uber pyro came out that door, but then, out of the corner of my eye, one of my pyro teammates leaped off the teleporter I had set up on the A/C unit.  He poofed them both off the roof, in to the waiting arms of the ground defense group.
