I haven't played this game in like four months and now my framerate has tanked.  What the hell?

I dunno, I think it's okay to have your 'general use' weapon and your niche weapon, as long as the niche weapons preforms its specific role very well.  And, the Direct Hit certainly does.

That's why I don't really take much issue with a lot of the 'bad' unlocks, because they're often really good in their niche.  The Cloak and Dagger isn't THAT bad, really.  It actually lets a Spy take out the hardest-to-crack engie nests significantly easier, to make no mention of your ability to camp enemies spawns.

Not like, say, the Razorback. Or the (old?) Backburner.  Or the (old) Homewrecker.  They had an obvious niche that they didn't (or in the Homewreckers case, COULDN'T) fill very well.  They're just dumb.

:rage: Edit:  Goddamn, my FPS right now is absolute shit.  It sometimes gets in the way, usually when their is a lot of activity on screen... which also happens to the moments where split seconds count the most!

I admit I'm really tired of the game's continual decline in performance... I don't think Smiler's even being hyperbolic, really.

It would be nice for Valve to do an 'optimization update'.

Valve's updates have always meant bad things for gamers. Counter-Strike: Source is a perfect example of this.

I've found the Cloak & Dagger to be great on the larger maps if the team's actually somewhat decent. Like the kind who look at that mysteriously vanishing Ammo Box and then start spraying bullets everywhere, turning you into a Swiss rather than French spy.

The Cloak & Dagger is objectively bad, because it makes you spend a lot of time doing nothing whereas the alternative is actually doing something. Only in very, very rare cases does a Spy sitting for five minutes in a corner watching an Engineer dance on his sentry actually do anything for his team.

It's not really a matter of waiting five minutes.  It's just a matter of waiting for longer than the regular Watch would allow for the opportunity that you need.  If your team is having a lot of trouble cracking an engie nest, it'd be better to take the C&D, wait for X time and take out the nest then the alternative.  Which is going in at a less-than-opportune time, failing, waiting for respawn, and then having to try again with a now extra cautious engie.

It's not useful ALL the time, but it's hardly objectively bad the way that, say, the Soldiers Shovel is.

Another wonderful use of it is sneaking all the way back to the spawn when they have a teleporter up and waiting for the other team to roll out before sapping it. Also useful in calling out what their spies are disguising as.

It's nowhere near the bottom of the list in unlocks. It just isn't useful all the time.

If your team is having a lot of trouble cracking an engie nest, it'd be better to take the C&D, wait for X time and take out the nest then the alternative.

But when does X time occur? I'd wager that 9/10 Engies who are playing defensively aren't going to suddenly up and leave their sentry nest for any reason except to possibly kill a Spy. It's difficult to determine whether or not 'try to sap, fail, repeat' is a better alternative than 'lie in wait for an opening' because of just how long you may be sitting there waiting.

It's not useful ALL the time, but it's hardly objectively bad the way that, say, the Soldiers Shovel is.

You're right, but the Shovel can't technically be considered the worst unlock.

Another wonderful use of it is sneaking all the way back to the spawn when they have a teleporter up and waiting for the other team to roll out before sapping it.

But any good Spy can do this with the normal watch. I guess I'm saying that the C&D isn't so much bad as it is worthless in comparison? Imagine if there was a Sniper unlock and primary selling point was that you could get headshots with it.

A good time would be, like, when a lot of people aren't piling out of their nearby teleporter.  MOST of the time the C&D isn't a good idea, but sometimes it can be an advantageous pick.

I'll give you a scenario;  Badwater, last point, Engie is BLU.  The position in that little cubby on the second floor area is a notoriously good Sentry spot that is very hard for the enemy to take out using conventional means, for tons reasons that should need no mention.

Of critical importance to BLU's offense is the teleporter.  Because this is such an asset, most Engies will just guard his base.  Rather than running in and wasting your time, you could wait a few seconds for when the Engie is tanking like a motherfucker, wacking away at his sentry while it is under fire.  Then you can kill him and his stuff, no risk.  You can do this with the Watch, of course, but the timing is much tighter and would require coordination with your team, and since that is pretty much impossible on ShMo...

The cloak and dagger is not for getting high scores and winning matches.  It is for when some motherfucker has indicated to you 'it is on'.  The cloak and dagger is not for stealth.  It is for passing divine judgment on the fucker who has wronged you.  It is for lying in wait, letting the all consuming hatred within you accumulate.  A few characters run by.  Not a prime opportunity, no.  Medic with a Heavy?  Ah yes, these will quiet the screams that burst from this butterfly knife.  But this is not my target.  I will wait.  No mere 'score' can be compared with the satisfaction of revenge.  To wait for the moment your nemesis would act at a critical moment.  It is at this point you take it from him.  Easy now, lighten that grip on the knife.  A little wiggle and pull it right back out.

I feel no pain when the other spy drives his knife into the back of my neck.  You cannot defeat me for I have already won.  Everything goes black and I feel peace for the first time in a while.

And then when I respawn, I'll switch back to the traditional watch or another class.  Generally you can only pull off the sneaky stuff once or twice before the entire enemy team gets twitchy enough to check corners with bullets and fire.  Generally get back to being engineer so I'm contributing instead of obsessing.

C&D is stuck in a rut balancewise.

it cannot be given a simple recharge rate buff large enough to make a real difference without making it better than the default

The Cloak & Dagger also, after a few kills, gives the entire team a sense of paranoia where they will run around willy nilly spraying everywhere with bullets and fire.

Granted, the other watch can cause this as well, but the paranoia of someone who can be invisible forever and ever is more -fun-

I'm not so sure about that last point. Most opponents won't realize you've been there "all this time" and will just die to the spy with no difference in their mind between that and the regular watch.

The only time I ever see players call out a specific watch is when a spy's rockin' the DR. I have never in my life heard anyone call out "Cloak & Dagger spy!"

It takes a bit to get going but I've seen half a team go pyro and spend the entire time just spraying flames everywhere.

They were steamrolled shortly after.

calling out DR means "If you killed the spy he's not really dead, you idiot, stop running off to do stupid things"

How about when a group of people with the same tag join at the same time, we just kick them. It'll save us a lot of hassle.

Yeah yeah yeah it won't happen again. I usually leave before the internet jerks turn into actual trolls. PM me on steam when stuff like this happens. On that note, is there any external applications that allow me to use Rcon commands outside of TF2? That will make everything much better for everyone.

I've seen clans decide to drop into OCR servers before just to shake up their night. Some are good, most are bad, but surprisingly it's the minority that decide to be fuckwads.

If a bunch of tagged people all show up at once, let someone know, but personally I'd want to watch until they prove themselves to be fuckshits.
